15 Worst Teams of 2014

While there were many teams to be reckoned with this year, there were also many teams to forget and many teams who had seasons that would be considered the worst in their respective sports. Let's take a look at the 15 worst teams of the 2014 calendar year.

15. Detroit Pistons

Oh boy, where to start with the Pistons. Detroit finished a measly 29-53 last season, including 15-34 since the new year began. This season? The Pistons have gotten themselves a solid head coach in Stan Van Gundy, but can't do much, posting just a 5-21 record through the first third of the season.

14. Edmonton Oilers

The picture says it all, Edmonton had the third-worst record in the NHL last season, going just 29-44-9 and have started the 2014-15 season with the league's worst mark, going just 7-19-6. This team has a lot of work to do.

13. Colorado Rockies

Trust me, at the beginning of the 2014 season, I was just as excited about the potential of the Colorado Rockies as everyone else who is a baseball fan. However, the pitching couldn't keep up with the offense and Colorado finished with the second-worst record in baseball, finishing the season with just 66 wins and the worst pitching staff in baseball. This team couldn't win away from home, going an embarrassing 21-60 on the road.

12. Houston Astros

The Astros are no longer the laughing stock of baseball, but it will be a while before this team is competing for division titles. The Astros finished with just 70 wins and in fourth place in the division -- just ahead of the struggling Rangers. It's too early to tell if the 70 wins were a fluke.

11. Washington Redskins

With Robert Griffin III under center, this team just isn't very good. Actually, it doesn't matter who is starting at quarterback, the Redskins are just a bad football team and they don't give their quarterbacks much help. Washington has begun the season 3-11 this season after a mediocre 2013 campaign.

10. New York Knicks

The New York Knicks just can't seem to put things together even with a couple superstars, Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire, on the roster. This team is just so dysfunctional and they're off to their worst start in franchise history in 2014-15, posting a 5-22 record.

9. Texas Rangers

The Rangers are another team that showed promise to start the year, especially with the addition of slugger Prince Fielder. However, Prince missed most of the season due to a back injury and surgery and the Rangers felt the loss of power, finishing the year just 67-95 -- finishing in last place in the AL West behind the lowly Astros.

Kobe Bryant has to be thinking retirement more and more every day. I mean, why does he even do this to himself? He is ending his career with one of the worst Laker teams in history as this team has begun the season with an 8-17 record after finishing the 2013-14 campaign with a 27-55 record.

7. Buffalo Sabres

Another NHL team that has been consistently in the cellar of the league for the past few seasons, Buffalo was the worst team in hockey in 2013-14. The Sabres finished with a 21-51-10 record in 2013-14 while starting this year with a 13-17-2 record. Tough go of things in the Northeast.

Rex Ryan might be the main reason the Jets are even on the worst list. Ryan's Jets are pitiful this year, posting a 3-11 record and barely even staying competitive throughout the year. The quarterback situation is just a joke and this team will be lucky to win four games.

5. Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks are playing well this year, posting a 13-13 record, but were just awful in 2013-14, finishing with the worst record in the NBA, 15-67. I mean, you have to try to be that bad. However, the Bucks are watching their season go down the drain in 2014-15 after talented rookie Jabari Parker went down with an ACL injury this past week.

4. Arizona Diamondbacks

Yes, we have finally reached the worst team in baseball. Just a couple years ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks were one of the most promising young teams in MLB, but they have since dropped off considerably. Arizona was just 64-98 this year, including the second-worst road record in the league.

3. Oakland Raiders

Oakland has been a bottom-dweller in the NFL for years now and this year is no different. The Raiders have struggled mightily in 2014, starting the year 2-12, but there is promise in young quarterback Derek Carr. However, this team will likely finish the year 2-14 with the tough remaining schedule.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars

While the Raiders might be considered the worst team in the league, they have more promise than the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sure, Blake Bortles might be the quarterback of the future, but this team can't seem to stop anyone defensively. Jacksonville is just 3-12 this year and will be lucky to win their final game.

Sometimes there are teams you have to feel bad for and the young Philadelphia 76ers are one of them. This team has some solid youthful pieces, but going 19-63 in 2013-14 and starting the 2014-15 season with a 2-22 record has to place them at the top spot on this list of horrible teams from the calendar year.
