The Dallas Mavericks and their fans haven’t had much to cheer about over the last year or so. After winning the NBA championship in 2011, the team was said to be ‘dismantled’ by many and only Dirk Nowitzki remained last year as the legitimate star on the roster.
This summer, owner Mark Cuban and his front office were out to change that. After failing to land Dwight Howard, the team went out and signed Monta Ellis as their biggest-named free agent and are hoping that their revamped roster including point guard Jose Calderon can compete with the best of the West in 2013.
I can tell you one player in particular who is excited for the upcoming campaign — Nowitzki. In fact, he’s so excited that he decided to jump outside of his typical candid self off the court and do a commercial for Mavs season tickets. I got quite a kick out of it myself, so without further adieu, here it is.
It is great to see the warm-hearted Nowitzki with a smile on before the next season starts. He deserves a shot at another title, but I’m not so sure the Mavs did enough this summer to help that cause.
In any event, Nowitzki will be the center of the team once again as they prepare to try and knock off the likes of the San Antonio Spurs among other newly-titled ‘powerhouses’ of the Western Conference. There are plenty of teams that could surprise and find themselves in the conversation for a championship in the West next season, and the Mavs are hoping to be one of them.
