During the Michigan State Spartans home football opener Friday night, the Spartan basketball team revealed their new promotional video for the upcoming 2013-14 basketball season.

The video, titled “Spartans Stand Together”, shows the entire basketball team dressed head to toe in Spartan football uniforms, which is a pretty cool idea, especially releasing it at the football game.

The video starts by showing some of the players suiting up in football pads and helmets, then shows forward Branden Dawson make a sack on a quarterback and follows it up with a celebration jump shot before revealing it’s him under the helmet.

It then goes on to show each member of the basketball team running various drills related to football and also features Keith Appling as a quarterback hitting Gary Harris with a pass.

For some Spartan fans, they may be wondering how realistic it is to try Appling at quarterback and Harris at receiver, but they are probably better suited for the basketball court.

There is a lot of anticipation around the Michigan State basketball as head coach Tom Izzo returns one of his most experienced squads ever after losing only one player from a year ago, Derrick Nix.

Gary Harris is returning after possibly being a top-10 pick in last year’s NBA draft, and players like Dawson, Appling, and Adreian Payne all had great seasons a year ago and have played a lot of games in East Lansing.

The Spartans officially open their season November 8th against McNeese State, but their first true matchup is against the Kentucky Wildcats on November 12th in the Champions Classic, which should be a number one versus number two matchup.
