Boomer Esiason just Bear’d down on Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears with these comments:

“He’s (Cutler) I guess, maybe in the top-15, I guess I would put him, but Chicago is a mid-tier team in the NFC and the NFC is loaded. If things go right for them, they need to stay healthy and somehow beat Green Bay which is not something they’ve been able to do with consistency since Jay got there.”

In other words – zing!

The former NFL quarterback also said that he ‘kind of’ gets Cutler’s struggles over the past few years, due to the number of coaches and offensive coordinators that have been through Chicago.

Whether you agree with his assessment of the Bears and their QB or not, he is right about the NFC being loaded and that Chicago needs to stay healthy to have any chance at making the postseason. I don’t know if it was completely necessary to rip Cutler like that, but there’s no denying the QB is headed into a make-or-break season in 2013. If Cutler doesn’t perform well, the Bears have no chance at making the playoffs.

Chicago opens its season this Sunday at home against Esiason’s former team, the Cincinnati Bengals. Current Bengals’ players can’t be thrilled with his comments, because the Bears, and specifically Cutler, now have some prime bulletin board material.
