Have you ever seen an optical illusion picture where someone looks far too small for their own good? How about when someone looks far too big for their own good? Well, how about a picture where there is no illusion and the two guys are so drastically different in size that it’s almost an unreal sight to see?
Take a look at that exact picture with Houston Astros‘ Jose Altuve standing next to Oakland Athletics‘ first baseman, Nate Freiman:
As you can see, Altuve is obviously a very small man and he is standing next to Freiman — a very large man. Second basemen are never really known to be tall, but standing a mere 5-foot-5, Altuve is definitely the shortest one out there.
This looks like something straight out of a video game. It might look like an optical illusion, but both players are standing next to second base, Freiman is just drasically taller and a bit leaner. In fact, Freiman is 6-foot-8 and being tall is something first basemen are accustomed to.
I’m not sure if Altuve noticed that he was standing next to a giant or that he looked like a little kid, but this has to be the picture of the 2013 MLB season. I wish there were more pictures like this circulating the internet and if there are, they need to surface. Basically anyone standing next to Altuve would be gold.
The second basemen is on the worst team in baseball and this picture is a bit of a metaphor for how ‘little’ the Astros really are to the game of baseball.
