Jay Cutler is one of those guys in the NFL that you really can’t predict. He never ceases to amaze anyone and Thursday afternoon’s press conference was no different. The Chicago Bears‘ quarterback showed up to today’s presser wearing somewhat of a tribute to one of the great coaches of all-time — Mike Ditka.
As you can see, the quarterback thought it would be a good idea to pay tribute to one of the best coaches in his organization’s history by wearing a cartoonish portrait of the head coach with sunglasses on and smoking a cigar. Cutler is one of the top quarterbacks in the league in many people’s opinion and he could become many Bears’ fans favorite player after they see this shirt.
Ditka, also a former Bears player, returned to coach the team after his retirement from playing the game. He coached the team from 1982-1992 and was fired following a disappointing 6-10 season in which the Bears started 4-0 and suffered a meltdown to finish off the year.
He went on to coach the New Orleans Saints five years later for a couple of seasons, but will always be remembered for his time with the Bears as a player and a coach.
The Ditka legacy will always live on in that locker room and it starts with the hilarious shirt by Cutler. The young quarterback has accounted for a lot of criticism in the past couple of seasons for not trying and taking himself out of a playoff game — allegedly.
Any way you look at it, this was an awesome move by Cutler. Also, this shirt might be pretty popular soon.
