Wes Welker is known as one of the best receivers in the NFL. He has a reputation as being one of the most reliable targets in the game. There’s really nothing about his reputation that’s ever been called into question. That is, until now, when this throwback video featuring Welker surfaced on the internet. It’s from the fall of 1999 and features the star wide receiver dressed up as Britney Spears during his senior year in high school:

As off-putting as this video might be, you have to admit, Welker is really getting into it. He bought into the routine – hook, line and sinker.
During a recent interview on NFL Total Access, Welker was asked about dressing up as Spears. He responded with this:
“Gosh, I’d love to say false there, but I did. I’d love to say false, but they have me on video. I’ve already bought them off, so you won’t be seeing that anytime soon.”
Welker went to high school in Oklahoma and apparently KWTV still had the video somewhere in their library. I’m guessing the interview got them looking for it and they came through in a big way. Classic stuff.
Dressing up as Spears back in the late 90′s would be the modern day equivalent of someone dressing up as Miley Cyrus. I’m not sure which one is worse…
