When it comes to the greatest sports movies of all time, there’s no debate The Mighty Ducks series ranks near the top of the list–especially when it comes to the second movie in the franchise D2: The Mighty Ducks. While Gordon Bombay was always considered the most popular character from the series, current Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson stole the show in the second movie as Russ Tyler–the obnoxious kid hockey player who thought he was all that and the creator of the famous “knuckle puck” that was basically impossible to stop.
It’s been almost 20 years since D2: The Might Ducks was released, but that doesn’t mean Thompson still isn’t known for his famous “It’s knuckle puck time!” line that will always be considered one of the greatest sports phrases of all time. Even to this day the famous knuckle puck is popular among sports fans who grew up watching The Mighty Ducks and as a recent guest on “Crowd Goes Wild”–Thompson decided to bring the classic hockey shot back.
As you can see in the video above, Katie Nolan discussed how D2 was one of her favorite movies of all time and in her honor–Thompson made his best attempt to bring the popular shot back. Obviously, this shot was nowhere close to what fans saw in the original movie, but it was cool to hear the “Quack, quack, quack” chants just like they used to do in the popular movies back in the day.
It’s hard to believe this movie was Thompson’s acting debut in a movie, but it’s safe to say D2 would not have been the same without the famous “knuckle puck” shot. With all of the sequels in Hollywood today, how awesome would it be if Disney decided to create a fourth installment in which the Ducks all came back as alumni?
Sure, it would be a long shot and tough to pull off, but a movie fan can dream, right?
