The recent DUI arrest of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has stirred up a bit of controversy. The third-year player crashed his car on Friday — just two days before the 49ers’ game against the Indianapolis Colts — and was arrested on suspicion of DUI and possession of marijuana.

This isn’t Smith’s first run-in with the law, as he was arrested in January of 2012 for the same reason and suffered stab wounds while breaking up a fight at his house during a party and this recent stint has put him over the top in terms of flirting danger. Jim Harbaugh apparently decided his recent DUI wasn’t enough to tell the player to get help right away as he played against the Colts and voluntarily entered rehab after the game.

Atlanta Falcons wide out Roddy White took to Twitter on Sunday to talk about the way the ‘NFL Countdown’ guys were talking about Smith’s arrest.

While this is the honest opinion of White, he should have kept it to himself because this is just an ignorant statement. Is this implying that White himself has driven under the influence? If so, why would he openly release a statement that throws him and the entire ‘NFL Countdown’ crew under the bus?

He later said he wasn’t defending Smith in any way, but rather pointing out the fact that no one should criticize someone for doing something that has probably been done by most people — but most people get away with it.

In any case, this statement should have been kept to himself.
