Michael Jordan has been in the news quite a bit as of late. It started off with the legendary basketball player saying that he could beat Lebron James in a game of one-on-one. Now, rumors of his return to the NBA have been started by Jalen Rose. In a segment with Bill Simmons, Rose states that he thinks Jordan will come out of retirement for one game this season. Yes, it sounds crazy, but here’s Rose’s reasoning:
So there’s that, and of course the famous quote from MJ (50) which we can’t forget about:
“One day you might look up and see me playing the game at 50. Oh, don’t laugh. Never say never. Because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.”
Simmons does point out that Rose ‘knows things’ and he did seem awful confident while making the prediction, but it really seems like a long-shot to me. At the same time, we are talking about Michael Jordan. The guy has a massive ego and I could see him wanting to prove to everybody that he still has it at 50. But more than that, as Rose points out, it would be a major PR stunt for the Charlotte Bobcats. Who in the Charlotte area wouldn’t want to buy an MJ jersey?
We’ll have to wait and see if there are any clues as the season goes on that could point to an MJ return. Maybe we’ll hear of him taking part in Bobcats’ practice, or that he’s cutting weight and training? Who knows? But regardless of whether or not this happens, Rose has everybody talking.
