10 Movie Stars Who Can't Get Enough of Their Favorite Sport

Main
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

There’s an old saying that goes, “All actors want to be musicians, and all musicians want to be actors.” Whoever came up with that failed to mention that both actors and musicians want to be athletes.

Sports are one of the few things that are universal. You can look just about anywhere in the world and find a fan of some sports team, so naturally actors picked up on a sports team at some point in their lives and continued to follow them throughout their careers.

It never fails that when some major sporting event appears on TV, there are always a couple shots of celebrities in the audience. Sometimes the celebrities are calmly watching the game, and sometimes they are as crazy as Spike Lee is at a New York Knicks game.

No fair-weather fans were included in this list, because, unlike most of the famous musicians that claim to be sports fans, movie stars tend to stick with a team through good and bad times. There are no Justin Beibers here, who switch from one powerhouse team to the next based on common opinion, just good, honest sports fans who happen to be actors.

Movie stars are people just like us and love sports just like us. So, whenever you’re watching your favorite team lose in overtime or get blown out at home, remember that there is probably a movie star out there that feels just as angry as you do.

Here is a list of 10 movie stars that can’t get enough of their favorite sport.

No. 10 Justin Timberlake

Timberlake
Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

More known for his singing ability than his acting ability, Timberlake is both a huge Green Bay Packers fan and Memphis basketball fan. He’s even been tailgating with random fans at a Packers game before.

No. 9 Will Ferrell

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Ron Burgundy checks in at No. 9 on this list because he just loves sports in general. Not only is he a huge fan of the Lakers, but he always has something funny to say to interviewers.

No. 8 Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler loves the New York Yankees and the New York Jets. That may have to do with the fact that he was born in Brooklyn.

No. 7 Matthew McConaughey

7
Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

You probably didn’t know this, but McConaughy does a thousand pushups every time the Texas Longhorns score a touchdown. I made that up, but you see my point that he’s a huge Texas fan.

No. 6 Bill Murray

Rob Grabowski-USA TODAY Sports

I feel bad for Bill Murray. Why? Because it’s got to be terrible being a Chicago Cubs fan lately.

No. 5 Tom Hanks

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Hanks love of the teams from Oakland is almost as creepy as his character from The Polar Express.

No. 4 Ben Affleck

4
Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Ben Affleck always shows up at sporting events in Boston. Matt Damon tags along sometimes, too.

No. 3 Will Smith

3
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

In West Philadelphia, born and raised … no, but seriously, Will Smith is a huge fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia 76ers.

No. 2 Ashley Judd

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Being the most famous sports fan of the craziest fan base in all of college basketball has to be exhausting. I wonder how she felt about her Kentucky Wildcats losing in the first round of the NIT last season.

No. 1 Jack Nicholson

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

LA Lakers’ fan Jack Nicholson might be the greatest celebrity sports fan of all time if it weren’t for film director Spike Lee and his New York Knicks.
