Shannon Sharpe is one of the best tight ends in NFL history. During his 14-year career he amassed over 10,000 receiving yards and 62 touchdowns. In 2011 he took his rightful place in the Hall of Fame. Now, he’s taken his place in the long list of celebrities/athletes that have been made fun of on Saturday Night Live. Jay Pharoah was at it again on Saturday evening, as he took to the stage on Weekend Update to impersonate Sharpe.

This was yet another spot on impersonation by Pharoah. In the past he’s poked fun at Paul Pierce and Stephen A. Smith. I think you could even replace the real Stephen A. with the fake one and viewers probably wouldn’t even know the difference.

During this bit, Pharoah embellished Sharpe’s habit of licking his lips and turned up the volume on his speech impediment. But that’s what good impersonations are made of.

Many people don’t like Sharpe as a studio analyst because he’s always loud, outspoken and over the top. However, I think that’s exactly what CBS wants out of him.

Shannon’s brother Sterling also works as a studio analyst for the NFL Network. Many people don’t know that Sterling was a stud receiver back in the early 90’s. He was Brett Favre‘s favorite target early in his career and headed for a HOF career as well. Unfortunately, a neck injury ended his career in 1994 after only seven seasons.
