Sad news in the football world as the two-year-old son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is reportedly in critical condition after he was beaten by the boyfriend of his mother’s child.

27-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson has been arrested by police and charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant as Peterson’s son is currently being treated in a South Dakota hospital. Apparently, Patterson originally called police late Wednesday afternoon saying Peterson’s son suffered choking injuries, but police determined later on that was not the case as the child had severe head injuries consistent with abuse.

It was a surprise to hear the news about Peterson skipping practice on Thursday with the team preparing for a key matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but nobody could have predicted this to be the reason why. Peterson has always been one of the most liked athletes in all of sports and to hear any individual go through an incident like this is just terrible.

The fact that anyone would even consider to do this to another individual–let alone a child–is absolutely sickening and one can only imagine what Patterson was thinking when he decided to do this. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Peterson and his family during this devastating time as we hope his son can get better soon with a quick recovery.
