The Chicago Bears faced off against the New York Giants in a somewhat ugly Thursday night game this week and Brandon Marshall was looking pretty solid. The receiver caught two touchdown passes for over 80 yards and looked solid throughout the game as Jay Cutler‘s top target.
He was also looking pretty flashy on the field with his neon green shoes. You might be wondering just why he had these shoes on since the Bears don’t have green anywhere in their logo. Marshall was donning the neon cleats to support mental health awareness.
It’s Mental Awareness Week and that means that the Bears wide out will be voicing his support for the awareness of something that has personally affected him. Marshall was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder just a couple of years ago and has been working hard to bring attention to mental health as a whole.
As you might know, October is breast cancer awareness month and that means many players have been wearing pink in support of that cause. The NFL planned on fining Marshall prior to the game if he did decide to wear the green shoes, but, in my opinion, the league should reconsider that.
As both are correct causes to bring awareness to, the Bears wide receiver said he would match whatever the fine would be and donate it to a breast cancer charity since that is what the league has been trying to bring attention to.
It’s a win-win situation. If the league fines Marshall, it failed in the aspect of bringing awareness to multiple causes. However, if it does fine him, he will donate money to a breast cancer awareness charity. It will be interesting to see if the league keeps its word.
