Top 20 Images From the Weekend That Was in Sports

USA Today Sports

It's hard to beat the month of October when it comes to sports. Football is in full swing, playoff baseball is on and we even have the beginnings of basketball and hockey. There's a little bit of something for everyone.

This past weekend was a doozy across the sports world. The MLB Championship Series' were in full effect and football was in mid-season form. We witnessed classic battles in college football and in the NFL. This time of year also acts as a point of no return mark for many football teams. Losing records are to the point where they're insurmountable and the top-tier teams start to run away from the pack.

We also witnessed more October magic on the baseball diamond. Although baseball is declining in terms of national viewership, there's still nothing like a postseason battle when it's all on the line. Pitching has ruled for most of the playoffs this year, but we've still been treated to some great late-game hits.

With so many events to take in, it wasn't easy picking 20 photos to sum up an entire weekend. But this slideshow features a wide variety of the sporting events from the weekend of October 11-13. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, which may or may not be true, but these photos certainly tell the story of the weekend that was in sports. Enjoy:
