The New Orleans Pelicans are looking to have a better season in 2013-14 than they had a season ago when they ended up missing the playoffs and failing to run a solid team out every night. Now that the Pelicans have a new name and some new faces, they look to be a possible contender to make the playoffs this season — in fact, they should make the playoffs.
Jrue Holiday is one of those new faces that the Pelicans have brought in to help them try and win an NBA title. The former Philadelphia 76ers point guard has not made a very good first impression, however. What do I mean by this? Well, before the home opener on Wednesday night, the organization decided to give young Jrue the mic to talk to the fans. Check out the awkwardness that ensued:
In case you missed it, he said that he was welcoming everyone to the new season on behalf of the 76ers. Whoops. Sorry, Jrue, you don’t play for them anymore. I couldn’t imagine what was running through his head after he saw the highlights of his pre-game speech. Fans were likely in awe of what just came out of their new point guard’s mouth.
This was pretty funny for everyone not involved in the Pelicans’ organization, but I can see how this could be one of the most awkward things to ever happen in a debut with a new team.
Okay, so he redeemed himself with 24 points, five rebounds and seven assists that night, but he needs to check his roster next time he welcomes fans to a game.
