As the owners of the newest NBA nickname, the New Orleans Pelicans have been criticized far and wide for their choice of mascot and nickname. They, however, do not care and have been embracing the Pelicans. While they might not be one of the best teams in the league, they are the best at one thing: scaring small children with their new mascot.

You might be asking how a mascot can scare children. Well, I bet you haven’t seen the Pelicans’ beauty of a mascot. This thing is so frightening I think I might have nightmares.

Okay, so I bet you didn’t see that coming. You probably were expecting a friendly looking pelican with a smile on its face. Well, look what the organization spawned. I can honestly say I haven’t seen a creepier mascot in my life. Besides the maniacal open-mouthed smile on its face and the huge beady eyes, the new mascot looks to have a green-ish tint in the dark and I would no be shocked if he slept with his eyes open, searching for prey at all times.

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh, but this thing is frightening. People have even posted Pierre the Pelican‘s face in horror movie scenes and it looks like it fits in well.

If the Pelicans are a poor team this season, we can consider ourselves lucky that we won’t have to see this face on national TV all the time. However, the nice people of New Orleans, and their children, will have to suffer through the 2013-14 year and beyond.
