Just when you think you’ve heard it all from the world of sports, another crazy story comes along to make you scratch your head. This wacky story involves US Olympian Ryan Lochte. The famous gold medal-winning swimmer has unfortunately torn his MCL, but it happened after a teenage girl jumped on his back and he lost his balance and fell. That’s right, a crazy teenage fan girl is responsible for the swimmer tearing his MCL and spraining his ACL.
Here’s the official statement from Lochte’s representative Janice Lee:
“As a result of a freak injury caused by an unexpected fan encounter Ryan has suffered a torn MCL and an ACL sprain and will be taking a break from training and competition. His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery and Ryan thanks everyone for their well wishes.”
So while this is no doubt a fairly major injury in nearly every sport, Lochte fans shouldn’t worry too much. We’re still nearly three years away from the 2016 Rio Olympics and the swimmer will have plenty of time to recovery. Sure, this injury is far from ideal, but it’s nothing that he can’t overcome.
One would think that he could recover much quicker from this type of injury, simply because he’s always working out in the pool anyways. Rehab for leg injuries often involves pool work because it doesn’t put near as much stress on the recovering area. It’s very likely that Lochte will be back in the water in a couple of months, if not sooner.
