15 Biggest Crybabies in Professional Sports

Crybabies
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

There is no question sports stirs up the emotions in everyone. Fans, players, coaches, commentators all get wrapped up in the same moment and the emotions fly all over the place. Sometimes those emotions can get a little out of control and turn anger and disbelief. Both have the same outcome in which a player begins to whine or pout about a specific play or a referee’s call.

When one thinks about crybabies in sports, there are the players who complain about everything, including blaming everyone else but them about a horrible play. Then there are the players that literally cry after winning a big game, such as a championship. Even though both could be listed on the slideshow, the list will mainly be focused on the players who whine too much. Although, don’t be surprised if some of them actually shed tears every now and then.

What we want are the big-time complainers who will whine, pout and cry until they get their way, which never works in the first place. Technically, the slideshow includes players from all professional sports. With that being said, it consists of mostly NBA players. That really shouldn’t shock anyone, especially since it is possible to flip through the channels on any given night and see at least one NBA star making their case about a call in the form of whining. It really is quite ridiculous how many lose their cool.

Make sure to click through the slideshow to see the 15 biggest crybabies in professional sports.

15. Brandon Jennings

Brandon Jennings is the classic professional athlete who whines when he doesn’t get his way. He believes he is owed certain things when he simply doesn’t work hard enough to earn them. Jennings has been known to fight with coaches and pout when he is benched for poor performance.

14. Tom Brady

Tom Brady can be seen yelling at his teammates quite frankly, but let’s be honest, nine times out of 10 it’s because they did something wrong. Then there are the times when something doesn’t go Brady’s way and he loses it. Brady can be seen whining on countless occasions when a flag isn’t thrown for something that he believes it should have been. Apparently, three Super Bowls and a wife who is a model simply aren’t good enough.

13. Glen Davis

Glen Davis got the nickname “Big Baby” at a young age due to his overwhelming size and the fact that he cried about everything when it came to sports. Since he was so big, he had to play with older players, which resulted in situations where he would get beat on the court. The youth basketball coach who gave him the nickname supposedly would have to tell Davis, “Stop crying, you big baby.”

12. Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning doesn’t appear to do too much complaining since joining forces with the Denver Broncos. However, there was a time where he would blame everyone else instead of looking in a mirror. There were numerous occasions Manning could be seen berating a teammate after a bad throw. Don’t believe me? Check out the video below where Manning goes off on center Jeff Saturday.

11. Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard complains about everything ranging from calls on the court to teammates not getting the job done to coaches not performing their duties well enough. He complained when he played for the Los Angeles Lakers and tried to put the blame of the bad season on others. He also reportedly is unhappy with the Houston Rockets and their current point guard situation.

“Got this today – from a VERY credible source… He is being patient, but I can tell you he isn’t really happy with the Rockets PGs,” an anonymous source told TerezOwens.com. “Wouldn’t mind if Rockets look at other options.”

10. Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant has had some pretty epic tantrums on the basketball court. What makes this famous whiner even more creditable is the fact that I can’t think of a single game in which Bryant didn’t complain at least once. It is an occupational hazard for referees that they will get an earful at some point from Bryant during a game.

9. LeBron James

Like Bryant, LeBron James will have something to whine about in every single contest he appears in. It doesn’t matter if it is a call against him or a teammate, he will be sure to speak up. He also can be a jerk to his coaches, which was a big problem for Erik Spoelstra when James initially arrived in South Beach.

8. Cristiano Ronaldo

Basically, any soccer player could have been placed on the list. It is unfortunate but soccer players constantly take dives and complain when they don’t get the call. As talented as Cristiano Ronaldo is at the sport he is definitely one of the biggest crybabies in soccer.

7. Allen Iverson

So much can be said about Allen Iverson and his famous tantrums. The best way to sum it all up is his epic flameout in which he complained about his criticism for missing practice.

"We're sitting here, I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're in here talking about practice," Iverson famously said during a press conference.

His tirade included the word “practice” over 20 times and his rant is one of the more quoted ones of all time.

6. Sidney Crosby

Crosby

Sidney Crosby was labeled a prima donna before he showed up at the professional level. There seems to be something about him that makes fans, coaches, players and even the media struggle to like him. He constantly complains about calls and refuses to take the blame for when things aren’t going his way.

5. Paul Pierce

Pierce
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Paul Pierce is just another basketball player who will put the blame anywhere but on himself. In the 2010 playoffs, he was forced to guard James in order to keep the superstar in check. Even though the Boston Celtics won the series, Pierce was criticized for his average of 14.3 points per game, which he blamed on the fact that he had to guard James.

4. Jeff Gordon

Jeff Gordon doesn’t really complain that much anymore, but boy oh boy could he throw a tantrum back in the day. In fact, it has been said that he complained after every single race that he didn’t come in first place. There’s a good chance that he still complains after every loss but just doesn’t show it as much with cameras around.

3. John McEnroe

Is there any athlete in any professional sport that had a shorter fuse than tennis legend John McEnroe? He threw tantrums for breakfast, lunch, dinner and the snack he ate right before a match. Don’t just take my word for it. Check out the video below of some epic McEnroe tirades.

2. Rasheed Wallace

It was pretty much impossible to go to a Detroit Pistons game without seeing at least one Rasheed Wallace outburst. The guy has over 300 career technical fouls, which is the most in NBA history. He even recorded 41 in one season. He averaged a technical foul per every two games over the span of the 80 contests he appeared in.

1. Terrell Owens

Owens
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Terrell Owens once literally cried to reporters in an attempt to defend Tony Romo. His explanation of “that’s my quarterback” was kind of pointless but entertaining nonetheless. The real reason Owens is the top crybaby in professional sports is because he could never stop complaining about everything. Unfortunately, it was his quarterback that usually took the brunt of it.
