Space Jam is a classic kids basketball movie. Anyone who grew up in the 1990s that was a fan of Michael Jordan, definitely saw the movie or probably owned a copy. The partially animated film combined the biggest sports star in the world, with classic cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Jordan teamed up with the legendary cartoon characters for a game against evil space aliens and of course, the good guys prevailed in the end.
Now, Yahoo has come out with a mockumentary that uses Space Jam as the subject matter. All sports fans have probably seen an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary or two, so that was the basis for this video clip:
I found this spoof of 30 for 30 to be hilarious. Yahoo absolutely nailed it and highlighted some of the ridiculous things we see in the sports documentaries. But the truth is, that almost any documentary with commentary is going to be a little ridiculous at some point. People always talk about the subject of the doc in an over the top manner.
It’s unlikely that we’ll ever see another movie like Space Jam. The concept of combining popular cartoon characters and a world class athlete could be replicated, but Jordan and the Looney Tunes crew is simply a perfect storm. It doesn’t get much more classic than the pairing of Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan on the big screen. Bugs is basically the MJ of cartoons and I doubt we’ll ever see another player like No. 23.
