Re-Casting Batman With Athletes and Sports Stars

Batman is one of most legendary franchises in the history of pop culture. From the original show starring Adam West, to the comics and now to the silver screen, Batman has been part of Americana since 1939.

The most recent installment of the series on the big screen was a huge success. Christopher Nolan hit a home run with all three of his Dark Knight movies and it's a shame that he's decided to call it a day. His trilogy had such a fresh feel to it. The run of movies that stared in 1989 with Michael Keaton as Batman really fizzled out by the time 'Batman and Robin' hit theaters in 1997. Nolan's spin on Batman with the Dark Knight movies definitely re-energized the franchise.

Now, many fans are disappointed because of the decision to have Ben Affleck play Bruce Wayne in the next movie. I suppose Affleck could make a serviceable Batman, but I'm not buying that he can outdo Keaton or Christian Bale. It's just hard to buy a guy that was a regular in Kevin Smith movies in the 1990s as Bruce Wayne in 2014. I'm not putting down his work in those movies or Smith's movies in general, I'm just saying that Affleck in those movies, is the Affleck that I think of as an actor. He's a good actor, just not great fit for the Dark Knight.

So who should play Batman and the characters in the franchise's long history? In this slideshow we'll re-cast the Dark Knight and company with stars from the world of sports. Most of them share physical characteristics, but some share other attributes as well. So without further ado, here are 11 characters from Batman, re-cast with sports stars:

Batman - Derek Jeter

Jeter is definitely qualified to be Batman. He's rich, he already lives in Gotham City and he's a captain. Sure he's aging, but with the high-tech equipment at his disposal, he'll be able to get along just fine.

Robin - Kirk Cousins

Cousins is used to being a sidekick, so adjusting to the role of Robin would be a breeze.

Alfred - Phil Jackson

Alfred has to be wise and there's no wiser guy in the world of sports than the Zen Master.

Bane - JJ Watt

Watt will sound goofy wearing that Bane mask, but he'll also be able to raise some serious cain.

Commissioner Gordon - Mike Ditka

Iron Mike could easily be a commissioner. He wouldn't be as easy going as Gordon, but he'd get the job done.

The Penguin - Rob Ryan

Ryan was born to play this role. His long hair and Rolling Rock gut make him the perfect Penguin.

The Riddler - Marc Trestman

Trestman is a smart guy who's always plotting against other teams.

Mr. Freeze - Brian Urlacher

Urlacher will bring some credibility back to Freeze after Arnold nearly ruined him back in 97.

The Joker - Chris Andersen

No one knows what goes on in the mind of the Joker and the same can be said for Birdman.

Catwoman - Danica Patrick

Danica wouldn't be afraid to put on the Catwoman suit if the price was right.

Two-Face - Jim Harbaugh

Harbaugh is no doubt a little two-faced on the sidelines. One minute he's calm and collected calling plays, the next he's throwing a tantrum and complaining to the officials.
