The 10 Most Overhyped Sports Stories of 2013
The Most Overplayed Sports Stories of 2013
People are more plugged in than ever before. With smart phones and other devices at our fingertips, endless information is just seconds away at any given time. Social media has also changed the way news breaks, which means that sports fans are more tuned in online than ever. It's because of today's plugged in culture, that we're often overloaded with stories.
To make matters worse, ESPN has a bad habit of running stories into the ground. There could lots of interesting things happening in the world of sports, but if one of their main teams or players is involved in a story, you won't hear the end of it. A lot of people are growing tired of ESPN's same old routine, but they're so big that it will take a long time before they get the message that people are sick of their over-analyzing habits.
All to often these days I find myself thinking - this isn't even a real story. Just because we all have video cameras on our phones, doesn't mean that a recorded flub up is a story. Sports stars have to be on their toes at all times. They can't say or do anything out of line, because there's a solid chance it will get recorded. That concept certainly wasn't on Bo Pelini's mind a couple years back when he went on a tirade against Nebraska fans. Then all of sudden this past fall, audio of the incident was released and Pelini found himself on the hot seat.
So in 2013, what were the most over-analyzed sports stories. What were the stories that played played on ESPN 24/7 for no reason at all? In this slideshow we'll take a look at the most overplayed sports stories of the year. Some of them are still being talked about and we'll just have to hope that they won't make it to 2014. Enjoy:
