The 15 Highest-Selling Sports Jerseys of 2013
The 15 Highest-Selling Sports Jerseys of 2013
Sports jerseys are always a hot item, especially around Christmas time. Children must have the jersey of their admired sports star, while adults have no problem sporting the latest jersey of their favorite player. Besides seeing how many jerseys are sold every year, one of the more interest things in regards to jersey sales is who takes over the top spot at the end of every year.
What a difference a year makes. Quarterback Robert Griffin III’s No. 10 jersey was the highest selling in the NFL from April 1, 2012, to March 1, 2013. Not only that, but it was also the highest-selling jersey in league history. Fast forward to December 2013 and Griffin doesn’t even crack the top 15 when the four major American sports are combined.
It always gets interesting when combining players from different sports and comparing the sale of their jerseys. Typically, the NFL dominates other sports when it comes to jersey sales. With that being said, there are always specific players in other sports that stand out.
Since this slideshow was made on Christmas Eve, some of the players on the list could change in standings because the countdown doesn’t include Christmas sales. The NFL jersey sale numbers are as of Dec. 11, the NBA jersey sales are as of Dec. 19, the MLB jersey sales are as of Sept. 26 and the NHL jersey sales are as of Nov. 7.

15. Aaron Rodgers
There’s no question Aaron Rodgers’ fractured collarbone has something to do with a slight drop in sales. However, he still ranks sixth in the NFL thanks to his loyal fan base.
14. Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo Anthony had the top spot in the NBA earlier this year. Of course, it was only a matter of time until a big-named player took it back. Anthony came in at No. 5 in the NBA.
13. Tom Brady
Tom Brady has led the New England Patriots to a division title in 10 of the last 11 seasons. It’s no wonder why he consistently ranks in the top five in NFL jersey sales.
12. Kevin Durant
Ever since Kevin Durant began to win scoring titles, his jersey started to skyrocket.
11. Yasiel Puig
I have to imagine rookie sensation Yasiel Puig’s jersey sales will continue to climb all the way through 2014. For now, he sits comfortably at No. 3 in MLB.
10. Patrick Kane
There’s no question Patrick Kane is the most popular player in hockey, which is why his jersey continues to be the No. 1 seller in the NHL.
9. Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose’s season-ending injuries have impacted his jersey sales greatly. With that being said, he remains to be a fan favorite as his jersey is the third best seller in the NBA.
8. Adrian Peterson
Running back Adrian Peterson is pretty much the only thing the fine people of Minnesota have to cheer about these days. That’s why his jersey is the top seller of any Minnesota sports star, as well as, the fourth best in the NFL.
7. Matt Harvey
Starting pitcher Matt Harvey exploded onto the scene onto the scene after a solid performance in 10 games in 2012. That’s why it’s not a surprise that his jersey is flying off the shelves.
6. Russell Wilson
Who would have guessed Russell Wilson would be as successful and as popular as he is so quickly after being selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. The Seattle Seahawks fans are sure glad to have him, which they show by purchasing his jersey at a rapid pace.
5. Mariano Rivera
The legendary closer saw his jerseys sales spike once it was known that 2013 would be his final season. Mariano Rivera holds the top spot in MLB as far as jersey sales are concerned, rightfully so.
4. Kobe Bryant
To be in the league for so long and to still rank in the top five in jersey sales is quite impressive. Of course, Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players to ever step on a basketball court so I guess it really shouldn’t be that much of a surprise.
3. Colin Kaepernick
Colin Kaepernick’s emergence in 2012, and the fact that he helped lead the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl berth, is a big reason why he has the second-highest selling jersey in the NFL in 2013.
2. LeBron James
LeBron James continues to dominate opponents on the court, while his jersey continues to dominate in sales every year. It’s a reoccurring pattern that doesn’t appear to be coming to an end anytime soon.
1. Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning setting NFL records in 2013 and the Denver Broncos looking like heavy favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl is why the legendary quarterback holds the top spot in jersey sales in 2013.
