Figure Skater Ashley Wagner is a lot more than just another pretty face on skates. As the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics approach there will be talk of a lot of things around the winter sports. Figure Skating is always a popular one for many reasons. One subject matter around any group of athletes is which ones are the most attractive and Wagner most definitely would find herself on that list in most cases. That isn’t what she brings to the 2014 Winter Games though.

Wagner is the 2012 and 2013 U.S. National Champion. She was also the 2012 Four Continents Champion and a 2-time U.S. bronze medalist. Add to that 2-time Junior World bronze medalist and you begin to see that she has the skills to compete in this year’s winter games right up there with the best of them. I didn’t even mention her finishing fourth in the 2012 World Championships and fifth in the 2013 World Championships.

Make no mistake about it Wagner has what it takes to step onto that medal stand in Sochi. She might or might not be considered a favorite by the experts but she is a threat to a medal nonetheless. The fact that she comes with a growing throng of sponsors including Cover Girl, Nike, P&G, Hilton HHonors, The Century Council, Highmark, Pandora and BP might force some competitors to see her as just another media darling.

Those who see her pretty face and sponsors and overlook her ability on the ice should be very careful in underestimating her. It would be a very good way to end up looking upwards at her on the medal stand when all is said and done. Good luck to Wagner and all of the athletes competing.
