Alex Rodriguez and the Most Notorious Cheaters in Sports History

Cheating is a part of athletic competition. It always has been, it always will be. Some are better than others at cheating, as in, they don't get caught. But lately we've seen more and more players crashing and burning because of illegal attempts to better themselves.

You can make a solid argument that Alex Rodriguez is the most notorious cheater of the modern era and maybe of all time. When people think about steroids and baseball, he's one of the first players to come to mind. A-Fraud has of course admitted to taking PEDs in the past during his days with the Texas Rangers, but he's vehemently denied the latest round of accusations from MLB regarding the Biogenesis scandal. However, Rodriguez has already lost his appeal and he's being forced to serve a full 162-game ban in 2014.

I believe that was MLB's intent all along. They wanted to remove him from the game for an entire year. To do that, they set the original ban at an odd increment (211 games). Now it appears as if the two sides came to an agreement on a lesser sentence of 162 games. It makes A-Rod's side feel like they won a little bit and it most definitely makes MLB feel like it's won. Bud Selig, specifically, has won at this moment in time.

We'll have to see how A-Roid's lawsuit against baseball goes, but I just don't see him making it to a field in 2014.

So beyond Rodriguez, who are the most notorious cheaters in sports history? There are clearly thousands of athletes who have cheated on some level over the years, but these are the 15 biggest of all time:

Manny being Manny ended up being Manny taking illegal supplements to gain an advantage. There's no denying the guy can hit, but it's clear that his power numbers were inflated by PEDs.

Big Mac took the baseball world by storm back in 1998 with his pursuit of the single-season home run record. But it turns out that he was juicing all along. Now, he'll never get into the hall of fame.
