10 Interesting Facts About US Olympian Lolo Jones
10 Things You Should Know About Lolo Jones
We're now just weeks away from the start of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games. So far, a lot of the buzz surrounding the games has been negative because of the terrorist activity in Russia. Hopefully, Olympic officials get things under control before the games get underway. The last thing we'd want to see is a big attack during the actual games.
These Winter Olympics won't be as star-studded as the most recent Summer Olympics in London, but the USA still has its fair share of big name athletes making the trip to Russia. Arguably, the biggest US star is none of than Lolo Jones.
Jones is of course known for her success in track and field and unfortunately, for her failures in the Summer Olympics. As the favorite to win the 100m hurdles in the 2008 games, Jones clipped the second to last hurdle and fell all the way to 17th place. She returned to the track in 2012, but came in just behind the medal spots in fourth place.
Now, she's taking her dream of winning an Olympic medal to ice and the bobsled. Jones is currently trying to earn a spot on the US team as a brakewoman. At this point, she's not officially in the Winter games, but that announcement will come in just a few days. Frankly, I'll be shocked if she doesn't make it. But regardless if she does or not, here are 10 things you should know about one of the most popular athletes in America today. Hopefully, we can add Winter Olympic medalist to this list once the Sochi games are in the books:
She's Put on About 25 Pounds for Bobsledding
There's a big difference between track weight and bobsled weight. Lolo had to really consume some calories to put on the necessary weight for bobsledding. How many, you ask? About 9,000 a day.

Jones is set to make her silver screen debut in 2014 in the remake of Left Behind. She'll play the part of airport gate attendant.
Lolo Attended LSU, but Was Born and Raised in Des Moines, IA
Although she attended college and currently lives in Louisiana, Jones is a born and raised Iowan.
Lolo Once Had To Live in a Church Basement
Lolo's family had extreme financial hardships when she was a child and therefore she had to live in the basement of a Salvation Army church for a period of time.
She Played Cello in High School
Jones was an excellent student and also played cello in her high school orchestra.
She's Gone on Twitter Dates
We've all heard of Match.com and eHarmony, but Twitter dating? Lolo's done it.
She's Already Won a Boblsed Gold Medal
Believe it or not, Jones has actually already won a gold medal in bobsledding. It happened at the 2013 FIBT World Championships in the mixed team event.
She's Never Won an Olympic Medal
As popular as Jones is, she's actually never won an Olympic medal. However, she has won two golds in the World Indoor Championships (60m hurdles).
She's Trying to Become the 5th Olympian to Win Medals in the Summer and Winter Games
Even though she's failed to medal in her first two Summer Olympics, she's still set on trying to make it back in 2016 to Rio for another shot. If she can medal in the 2014 Winter games, she'll have a chance to join an elite club.
She's a Virgin
Of all the things people talk about when it comes to Lolo Jones away from sports, this is probably the most common. Jones isn't shy about her life choice to remain a virgin until she gets married.
Best of luck to her on that whole thing, as well as in the upcoming Sochi games.
