Cristiano Ronaldo‘s exploits with Real Madrid might have led to a Ballon d’Or award for the world’s most famous football player, but his girlfriend Irina Shayk has just got one over him by unveiling an awesome themed-swimsuit to promote the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The 28-year-old Russian supermodel also posted a picture of her ticket to the Olympics, strapped safely into a plane seat. Her home nation has been embroiled in controversies over hosting the prestigious event as news poured in of gay rights activists across the world protesting against the Russian government for a day with the Winter Games scheduled to kick off in two days.

Russia’s lack of tolerance towards non-traditional sexuality has been subject to numerous demonstrations against the country as the nation refuses to budge away from its hard-line stance on this issue.

While homosexuality has occupied a majority of the attention around the games, news has been filtering in that journalists entering the city are being subject to humiliating conditions in their accommodations. Many of them have actually  taken to Twitter to express disgust at the country’s failure to attend to such basic issues.
