Day six of competition at the 2014 Winter Olympics ended up being enormous for the United States.

Early in the day, as the long-awaited men's hockey tournament began. Team USA made a clear statement with their complete humiliation of Slovakia. With a six-goal second period, the U.S. secured a 7-1 win to open the Group A prelims. Goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 22 shots for the Americans, while Slovakia struggled with their goalies, replacing Jaroslav Halak with Peter Budaj midway through the nightmare second. Budaj had been in net for just shy of a minute and a half before Phil Kessel made him regret it.

Elsewhere in the Men's tournament, Canada was able to dispose of Norway; however, the 3-1 win was nowhere near the lopsided affair it was predicted to be. The United States' next opponent, Russia, gave it to Slovenia 5-2 and continues to look strong.

The huge news was the American sweep of the men's slopestyle ski competition. Gold, silver and bronze all went to the U.S. as the rest of the world had to sit and watch. Joss Christensen turned in a monster performance with a 95.80 overall score to take the gold.

Bobsleigh began taking training runs in preparation for their competition this weekend. All eyes remain on American Lolo Jones, who was reportedly “quarantined” this week while fighting a cold and the flu. Jones and American teammate Jazmine Fenlator were seen on the town earlier this week, as a Vine video taken by Jones surfaced of Fenlator having a 'dance-off' in the street with an unidentified Jamaican bobsledder. Expectations are for Jones and United States I to be at full strength come Sunday.

All results are final unless otherwise noted
