Choose your words wisely. Those seem like reasonable words to live by. But when it comes to Paula Deen, she appears to have a problem with that. Deen was of course the topic of discussion last summer, when she came under fire for her alleged use of the n-word. Deen was even sued for making derogatory comments about African Americans, but the lawsuit was ultimately thrown out. Now, she’s back in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Check out what the famous cook told People in a recent interview:

“I feel like ’embattled’ or ‘disgraced’ will always follow my name. It’s like that black football player who recently came out. He said, ‘I just want to be known as a football player. I don’t want to be known as a gay football player.’ I know exactly what he’s saying.”

Oh, Paula. Really? ‘That black football player.” You couldn’t just say his name or leave out the fact that he’s an African American?

This comment proves that Ms. Deen just doesn’t get it. Maybe it is the result of her up-bringing, but that’s certainly no excuse. People don’t talk like that anymore. This is not 1965.

To be fair, I think we all understand the point she was trying to get across. However, she lost the majority of people when she referred to Sam as a black football player.

Does Deen deserve a chance to redeem herself? Should she be allowed to return to TV? I’m going to vote NO. It’s time for her to step out of the public spotlight. No one has time for this crap anymore.
