The world of sports is all about heroes. We sometimes even love our sports heroes more than real-life heroes. Maybe that's wrong, but it's just the way it is for some fans.
But for every hero, there has to be a villain. Every good guy needs a bad guy to defeat.
With that in mind, let's take a look at 20 sports villains fans love to hate:
If you're a baseball purist, there's a very good chance that you hate Pete Rose and are glad that he's banned from MLB for betting on games.
Outside of Pistons and Hoosiers fans, not too many fan bases care for Thomas. His actions/reputation even cost him a spot on the Dream Team, as Michael Jordan and others openly requested that he be left off the team.
When it comes to figure skating and the Winter Olympics, there will never be another villain like Tonya Harding. People still hate her guts to this very day for her involvement in the Nancy Kerrigan clubbing.
Many dog owners/lovers will never be able to forgive Vick for what he did. No matter how many years go by, he'll still be one of the most hated guys in the NFL.
Jones just flat out rubs people the wrong way. He's old, rich and out of his mind -- what's there to like about him?
Lying cheat -- two words that sum up why baseball fans hate A-Fraud.
When you think of evil sports agents, Boris is probably the first name that comes to mind. He represents all that's wrong in sports today.
Most fans agree that Bonds is full of it. On top of that, the dude just comes off as an egotistical jerk.
Pierzynski has been one of the most hated baseball players for a long time now. His smug attitude and loud mouth really turn people off.
Even though he's arguably one of the 10 best NBA players of all time, many basketball fans can't stand the Black Mamba. Maybe it's because he was once accused of rape? Maybe it's because of his attitude? Either way, there are a lot of Kobe-haters out there.
Every sport needs a top heel and Busch is that guy for NASCAR. I shutter to think how many people hope he wrecks every time he takes the track.
The notorious owner of the Reds (from 1984-1999) angered many throughout her MLB career. That'll happen when you use racial slurs and make comments in support of Adolf Hitler.
Avery is one of the most controversial players in NHL history. He was known for constantly running his mouth and stirring the pot at every opportunity.
It's not often that a sport's biggest name is also arguably the most hated guy in the sport. Money is cocky individual, which just rubs people the wrong way. He's also spent time in jail for allegedly battering his ex-girlfriend.
It's tough to find a Suh fan outside of Detroit. His reputation as the NFL's dirtiest player is well-founded.
Incognito is no doubt the NFL's resident bully. No matter your opinion of the Jonathan Martin case, there's no denying that Incognito has a track record of questionable behavior.
Armstrong has probably fallen further than any athlete in history. He was on top of cycling and nearly the world after beating cancer, but in the end, the guy was a big time fraud/jerk.
Even though he was acquitted of double-murder in his 1994 criminal trial, the court of public opinion has no doubt found O.J. guilty.
Unless he's acquitted of first-degree murder (which seems unlikely), Hernandez has to be the biggest villain in sports history. What he allegedly did, is worse than anything else a human can possibly do. If you're a cold-blooded murder, you're a true villain.
