Bodybuilder turned actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is capable of many things. The former Mr. Olympia still enjoys putting his muscles to good work, which is one of the reasons why the Arnold Schwarzenegger Armwrestling Classic still exists. The event is one of many at the annual Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio. With Schwarzenegger still flexing some serious biceps, who are 15 athletes who could beat Schwarzenegger in an Arm Wrestle?
Arm wrestling is all about upper body strength and strong shoulders. LeBron James is one of the strongest players in the NBA. The way he throws down dunks and muscles his way through the paint is all we need to know in regard to how he would handle himself in an arm wrestle.
Dwight Howard’s 365-pound bench press may not seem like a lot compared to the other athletes on this countdown. However, the center has big hands that are strong enough to crush that of his opponent. Arm wrestling mostly focuses on upper body strength, but there also needs to be concentration on a strong grip.
Adrian Peterson has more lower body strength than anything else, which is necessary for him to break through tackles. With that being said, Peterson has been known to bench press 345 pounds. More importantly, he’s someone who hates to lose.
Blake Griffin can slam a dunk down with ferocity better than anyone in basketball. The fact that opponents clear the lanes when he comes charging through speaks for itself. If Griffin can break that same intensity to arm wrestling, he will do just fine.
In his prime, Ryan Howard was a beast when it came to crushing home runs. Howard is still someone you wouldn’t want to mess with, especially in an arm wrestle. The slugger has crazy upper body strength in which he can bench press 345 pounds.
Linebacker Ernie Sims can bench press 225 pounds a whopping 25 reps. He has made a living stopping running backs in their tracks. An arm wrestle against Schwarzenegger would be a walk in the park compared to that.
Brian Orakpo goes up against offensive linemen who are twice his size every time he takes the field. The outside linebacker can bench 225 pounds an incredible 31 times without taking a breather. Not to mention, Orakpo has that killer instinct that is necessary to take down opposing quarterbacks, which would bode him well in an arm wrestle.
Metta World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, is someone who can get a bit crazy at times. Part of being a good arm wrestler is being able to psyche opponents out. Since World Peace is one of the more mentally unstable athletes in all of sports, his crazy eyes just might be all that he needs to be victorious against Schwarzenegger.
Patrick Willis can bench press a maximum of 385 pounds. He also can bench 225 pounds in 22 reps. Willis is the type of player who strikes fear in his opponents, which could certainly be useful when in the middle of an arm wrestle match.
Vernon Davis is one of the more physically intimidating athletes in football. He’s big, strong and very athletic. All three factors are a reason why he has what it takes to be victorious in an arm wrestle match.
Brock Lesnar understands what it means to be a physical competitor. The fact is Lesnar has plenty of experience arm wrestling other wrestlers, which is why Schwarzenegger wouldn’t stand a chance.
Olympic gold medalist Wladimir Klitschko has the body strength to get the job done, but it’s his supreme intelligence that could be the reason he defeats Schwarzenegger.
Like the other 14 names on this list, Rob Gronkowski is a work out machine. In order to be a wrecking ball in the NFL, the tight end does whatever it takes to keep his body in prime shape. Benching 510 pounds certainly would get the job done in an arm wrestle, even if Schwarzenegger benched 540 pounds in his prime.
Larry Allen hasn’t played professional football since 2007. However, the legendary workout warrior is someone I couldn’t leave off this list. Allen owns the most impressive bench press outside of powerlifting. The former offensive guard once benched a jaw-dropping 700 pounds at the Dallas Cowboys workout facility. To watch him go up against Schwarzenegger in an arm wrestle wouldn’t even be fair.
Mariusz Pudzianowski is a fierce strongman competitor who can bench 640 pounds. Granted, just because Pudzianowski’s weight and upper body strength far exceeds that of Schwarzenegger, it doesn’t mean he will automatically win. Above everything else, arm wrestling is about technique. Since Schwarzenegger has experience in the sport, he could beat anyone on the list. However, I do like Pudzianowski’s chances.
