Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and 15 Athletes Who Should Stop Acting

The Rock Isn't the Only Athlete Who Should Call it Quits on the Silver Screen

There have been some REALLY bad acting perofrmances by athletes over the years and some of them keep coming back for more. The Rock is one who simply won’t go away from the big screen and before any of his former athlete buddies get any ideas, we’re here to save the world from more movies like the new Hercules film starring Dwayne Johnson. Seriously, don’t waste your money.

Dude was the bomb on the football field, but his career on the silver screen wasn’t exactly stellar. If you’ve seen the movie “Stone Cold” starring Brian Bosworth, you know what we mean. Hopefully his role in “The Longest Yard” remake in 2005 was his last.

14. Tom Brady

If an athlete can’t play his or herself in a show like “Entourage” you know there’s a problem. As quickly as Tom Brady got on screen, everyone figured out he shouldn’t be there. However, given his celebrity status, he’ll likely try his hand at acting again once he retires from the NFL. Give it up, Tom!

If “Simon Sez” and “Double Team” wee any indication, this former rebounding freak shouldn’t be in any movies or TV shows. Yet he’s still hanging around the silver screen with small roles in stuff like “Hotel Impossible” much to the dismay of all the viewers.

Remember “The LeBrons” TV commercials for which the self-proclaimed King was an actor, producer and writer? Yeah, there’s a reason that series didn’t last very long, so let’s hope the rumors about LeBron being in a movie soon aren’t true.

11. Chris Bosh

Just like Tom Brady, Chris Bosh absolutely bombed his shot at acting while playing himself on “Entourage”. Again, if you can’t play yourself well in a small role like that, you’re probably not going to be able to play anyone else in a real role.

As if his role in “Blue Chips” wasn’t an indication, we had to see more and more proof that Penny Hardaway can’t act when he had small roles and appearances in shows like “Cosby”, “Figure It Out” and “The Apprentice”. He played himself in all of them and didn’t do well. Give it up, dude.

You probably love “Space Jam” like every other normal human being in the world, but you also have to admit that Larry Bird absolutely bombed his acting debut in that movie. He also didn’t do well in “Celtic Price” or “Blue Chips” so any future plans for him on the silver screen should be scrapped now.

This gold-medal Olympian was a stud in the gymnastics arena, but he wasn’t exactly stellar on the silver screen. As if his appearance in the 1986 film “Rad!” wasn’t bad enough, he was brought back in “Stick It” and “Peaceful Warrior” in 2006. Maybe try coaching instead of acting?

We knew the big man couldn’t act when his few lines in “Space Jam” were as awkward as a seven-foot dude in a kids movie. Oh, wait…

Then his lack of talent on the silver screen were confirmed two years later in “Senseless”. No more, Pat. No more.

Drama follows Roger Clemens around off the baseball diamond despite his Hall of Fame-caliber career on it. However, he can’t seem to harness that drama on the silver screen as his appearance in “Anger Management” wasn’t worthy of an award.

For years, Hulk Hogan has had tons of both small and large roles in weird movies and TV shows, but none of them have been memorable. From “3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain” to “Walker Texas Ranger” and everything in between and afterward, he’s been a flop. Give up acting, Brother!

Just when we thought he’d learned his lesson from “Kazaam” and “Steel”, Shaq showed back up in “Scary Movie 4”, “Southland” and “Grown Ups 2”. While his appearances make us laugh because he looks like a gigantic special effect, his acting isn’t exactly on par with the real actors around him.

His acting career is still young because “Thunderstruck” just came out in 2012, but there are talks of another film starring, or at least including Kevin Durant. Bad idea, folks. Keep the man on the basketball floor where he belongs.

Did everyone just forget how bad Howie Long was in “Firestorm”? If not, then why was he on “3000 Miles to Graceland” and “Malcolm in the Middle”? Get the guy off the silver screen and keep him on the NFL analyst shows.

Although he’s never really been good at acting, The Rock has been in a truckload of movies, ranging from “Fast Five” to “Tooth Fairy” and now “Hercules”. As we’ve already heard from critics on his newest film, this guy just needs to give up acting.
