Athletes have been known to take to Twitter to say some regrettable things. Whether it's to the media, other players or even fans, athletes have a history of saying things on social media that they wish they could take back.

Luckily for us, these tweets were taken note of and some even screen-shot so we can re-live the ridiculousness.

Brandon Jennings made fun of J.R. Smith's little brother on Twitter and the New York Knicks' star took offense to it. He even said he would bring his crew to Detroit and put the city on smash. Not sure what that means, but it doesn't sound good.

Chael Sonnen had this to say about Rampage Jackson talking trash about him:

"If I could understand a single word @rampage4real said about me I might be mildly offended."

Those are fighting words.

Arian Foster destroyed a Twitter troll not too long ago. The running back posted a philosophic tweet last week and a fan had this to say. How did Foster respond? By posting a tweet about yards -- in caveman-like talk.

Paul Bissonnette took on this jealous fan and clearly won with the sideburns comment. This is why fans shouldn't reply to athlete's tweets about money. Who cares?

Johnny Manziel was poked at by a Twitter hater, telling him that he wouldn't do anything in 2013 and that his 2012 numbers and Heisman Trophy were a fluke. Manziel responded by tweeting a picture of his Heisman Trophy and it said "you're that mad bro?"

Classic Johnny.

Roddy White seems to make a habit of posting dumb things on social media. Calling a fan -- or troll -- a peasant isn't one of his prouder moments.

This is so simple, yet so awesome. It looks like this fan will never be tweeting at goalie Carey Price again.

Dwight Howard posted a tweet about forgetting the past and moving forward. A female fan didn't like that and sounded like a bitter Lakers fan. Well, Dwight definitely owned her on this one.

3. AJ McCarron vs. Darnell Dockett

This is one of the more well-known Twitter fights of all time. McCarron had been publicly acknowledged for dating Katherine Webb and Darnell Dockett wanted to share the Alabama QB's lady friend, even asking if she wanted to meet up and go to King of Diamonds -- a gentlemen's club. This is how McCarron responded and owned Dockett.

Richard Sherman is famous for his Twitter feuds with fellow athletes -- and sometime Skip Bayless. This time, he took on Darrelle Revis. Apparently Revis Island didn't respect Sherman with a tweet -- and you know what happens when people get on Sherman's bad side.

Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens had a fake/real fight on Twitter that was never really spoke of again. The two went at it, blaming each other for Carson Palmer retiring and cursing at each other like they were never friends while calling each other out for sucking.

Owens even said: "And so much ur "Batman & Robin" idea!!" followed up by "Where the hell ws Robin all year?"

Let's hope this was a joke. If not, what an epic fight.
