Female professional golfer Sharmila Nicollet did not come from a family that was involved in the sport. However, that didn’t stop the 23-year-old from pursuing her dream of playing the game she has loved nearly her entire life. Check out 20 interesting facts that are accompanied by hot photos of the beautiful Nicollet.
Nicollet was born and raised in Bangalore, India.
Her father, Marc, is French and works as a software professional. Her mother, Surekha, is Indian and is a perfumist. Surekha runs her own franchise of Padmini fragrances.
Nicollet excels at golf, but what many fans may not realize is that she is an overall talented athlete. She is a fantastic swimmer who has won 72 medals in state and national meets. She also plays tennis and basketball.
When she’s not playing sports she enjoys horseback riding, playing the piano, reading, yoga, and listening to music.
Nicollet is a self-admitted shopaholic who can spend an entire day shopping and relaxing at the spa.
Nicollet is very intelligent as she frequently takes part in chess and Sudoku to unwind. She can also speak seven different languages: English, French and five Indian languages.
Her role models that inspire her to keep getting better at golf are none other than Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
Nicollet began playing golf at the age of 11 years old.
She won her first amateur tournament four years later. She was named Lady Golfer of the Year in 2007.
Nicollet was the youngest female golfer to win the All-India Ladies Amateur Championship, which she won two years in a row. Along with that, she was victorious in seven other Open Amateur Tournaments.
She also had three Pro-Am wins, and she finished in the top-10 22 times during her amateur career.
In 2009, she turned professional at the age of 18 years old.
Her current tour memberships include the Ladies European Tour, Women’s Golf Association of India and Ladies Asian Tour.
In 2009, she won the Order of Merit on the Women’s Golf Association of India due to two wins and four top five finishes. The following season, she won five more events and five top five finishes, which allowed her to finish at the top of the Order of Merit once again. She was named Player of the Year on the Women’s Golf Association of India in 2010.
In 2011, she finished second on the Order of Merit with two wins and four top five finishes. Those wins are what led to her being offered a full tour card on the Ladies European Tour the following season.
She is the youngest Indian golfer to qualify for the Ladies European Tour, and the second Indian to be rewarded a full card on the Ladies European Tour.
It didn’t take long for her to win, as she was victorious in the Hero-KGA tournament.
All in all, she has 11 professional wins on the Women’s Golf Association of India.
Nicollet’s goal is to become the No. 1 golfer on the European Ladies Golf Tour in 2014. She would also like to qualify and play on the LPGA Tour the following year. If that wasn’t enough, her dream is to play and win at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Nicollet is currently the only Indian on the Ladies European Tour.
