If you didn’t already know, Wes Welker is one of the weirdest and most entertaining dudes in sports. The pint-sized Denver Broncos receiver went to the Kentucky Derby looking fresh and apparently made some good bets, because he seemed pretty generous on Twitter afterward:
However, he quickly got a lot stingier once Churchill Downs gave him a call this week. Apparently, the organization made an error on Welker’s winning ticket and gave him an extra $15,000, a lot of which he likely gave away when he was passing out $100 bills following the race.
In true Welker fashion, he basically told Churchill Downs to shove off, telling the Dan Patrick show that the horse racing titan can “get in line.”
Welker is no stranger to these types of spats as he walked away from the New England Patriots after a new contract couldn’t be decided; that’s why he ended up with Denver after multiple Pro Bowl season with the Pats.
Of course, this probably won’t just be a one-response thing; Churchill Downs will likely try to take this to court and there will be more drama surrounding Welker. That has to be just what the Broncos want heading into the 2014-15 NFL season.
