More so than ever before, Indian athletes are getting the opportunity to be in the international spotlight. With sports like basketball, American football and even kabaddi being part of a revolution in which sports are no longer limited by borders, athletes from India will finally be recognized worldwide. With that in mind, here are five of India’s greatest athletes.

Saina Nehwal is India's No.1 badminton player and is currently ranked No. 5 in the world by the Badminton World Federation. She won the gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in India, and also received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (India's highest sporting honor) in 2010. She took home a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the women's singles event.

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is an Indian shooter and politician whose athletic career rose to fame after winning the silver medal in Men's Double Trap at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

You know how Indians are really, really smart? Well, Viswanathan Anand is on a whole different level, having won five world chess championships. Originally from Tamil Nadu, Viswanathan started off early and bagged the National Sub-Junior Chess Championship at the age of 14. He is the only player to have won the world chess championships in various formats of the sport, including match, tournament, rapid, and even knockout chess.
