Continuing the momentum behind the Narendra Modi-led NDA government and its organizational skills, India is now planning to be for the 2019 Asian Games to be held in New Delhi.

Despite being about five years away, the event will require much set up and infrastructure change to run smoothly, if chosen as host city/country. How successfully it is run will have a great impact on not only the image of India, but also of Modi’s structure.

“We would be very happy if we can get to host the Games in 2019. At the moment we are waiting for the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to present us with the proposal. So let us see if it can be submitted in time,” said Sarbananda Sonowal, Union sports and youth affairs minister.

Vietnam, which was the original host of the 2019 Games, recently quit as the host due to a lack of preparedness. They just aren’t financially capable to hold the multi-sport event. One country’s loss can be another’s gain, however, as Vietnam’s exit gives India a big opportunity.

Sources close to the IOA confirmed with the Hindustan Times that there definitely are formal plans for India to bid to host the games in New Delhi. The city already has the resources available since it built new facility for the recent Commonwealth Games.

With the previous government having trouble running those Commonwealth Games, there is much pressure on Modi and his government to successfully run these Asian Games in question, assuming India does in fact win the bid to host.
