Long gone are the days of big dreams and no resources in Indian sports. A history of passion that has often been plagued by a dwindling sports infrastructure is just that, history. A new multi-million dollar stadium is being built in Gujarat – the Ahmedabad sports stadium – and it will be the world’s first outdoor sports stadium that can transform into an indoor stadium at the touch of a button.

For India, the future is now.

“We are delighted our project is coming to fruition,” said Paul Fletcher, former pro footballer and in charge of the Ahmedabad project. “Having our first operational StadiArena in such a visionary and progressive city as Ahmedabad is truly an exciting prospect.”

Upon completion, the stadium will seat up to 25,000 persons. More importantly, it will be used for sports events, entertainment concerts and even has the potential to be a location for a national sports academy.

Within just six to seven minutes, a wall can retract the first 16 rows of the arena, creating a space that can be used for all sorts of events.

“Our project partners, Mumbai-based TransStadia who are licensed to implement our system, have been remarkable in their commitment and determination to negotiate the political, financial and cultural issues to ensure that the stadium becomes a reality,” said Fletcher.
