Bollywood superstar, global icon and United Nations Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan  is now sponsoring the coaching of two female athletes who will represent India in various international sporting competitions.

Bachchan has agreed to sponsor Ayonika Paul and Pooja Ghatkar. The venture is a part of NGO Olympic Gold Quest’s Medals4India campaign. Both Paul and Ghatkar are shooters and have hopes to compete at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.

In preparation for the ultimate goal, Paul and Ghatkar will compete in the upcoming Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and Asian Games in 2014. Bachchan’s funding will help these athletes have access to resources they otherwise wouldn’t have. Essentially, Bachchan is not only helping these athletes, but giving hope to all of India.

The Olympic Gold Quest initiative is a part of the program of the Foundation of Sports And Games. This was by various sports stars in India in 2001 to first identify future talent and support Indian athletes to one day win Olympic medals.

Paul, just 21 years old, represents just that as she has risen in the ranks of the shooting world. Currently ranked No. 27 worldwide, she shot a world class score of 503 (398 +105) at KSS Memorial Championship in Delhi in 2012.

Ghatkar, too, shows much promise. She won the National Championships title in Delhi in December 2012, and is expected to compete for a medal in Rio in 2016.
