The 10 Most Ridiculous Things About the ESPYs

Last night, the 22nd annual ESPYs were held in Los Angeles, and as always they provided a fair share of laughs, scoffs, eye rolls, cheers and even tears. Drake did a commendable job in his first time as a host for a major award ceremony, but he also provided some of the more absurd moments as well. Here are the 10 most ridiculous moments of the evening.

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t understand modern fashion. I still wear many of the same shirts I bought back during the Clinton administration, literally. So, needless to say I may not be the most qualified judge of the evening’s outfits. That said, Drake appearing on multiple occasions in capris frankly did me in. Any time a male celebrity is wearing the same thing my five-year-old daughter would wear, something isn’t right.

I mean, wow. He doesn't look THAT big on the court.

Seriously, is this guy still relevant at all? Why do we care about him even being there? Is there a biggest NFL busts award?

7. Victor Cruz’s Pants

I’m not actually sure how many people actually caught a glimpse of Cruz’s pants, but let’s just say he looked like he was about to hit the gym immediately following his presentation in his formal tights. Again, I’m not a fashionista, but people can’t actually think those are stylish, can they? They looked like something MC Hammer would wear while shooting a video for a 90s Monster Hits video.

The irony of Carmelo standing beside the ABA/NBA legend, a player who won championships in both leagues, was ridiculousness epitomized. Top it off with him presenting the award for best team, one which celebrates the champions from the past year, and you have one of the more preposterous moments in ESPY history.

Drake has not been shy about his affection for Tulsa Shock’s guard Skylar Diggins. It culminated last night during an awkward segment in which he read multiple poems for her, after which she agreed to give him a kiss to end the madness once and for all. Of course, she then proceeded to provide one of the more memorable “friend-zone” moments in TV history when she kissed his forehead instead of his lips. Embarrassing.

Diggs made no qualms about announcing his new relationship with model Amanza Smith Brown, as he stood on stage with Danica Patrick, presenting the Best Male Athlete award. He even went as far as to threaten everybody who even looked at her, as the camera panned to a purposefully intimidated Blake Griffin. While it was purported to be a staged part of the skit, I’m pretty sure he was dead serious.

There’s not much else to say about this one, except that I couldn’t have possibly felt more awkward watching Drake blow into Lance Stephenson’s ear. Oh wait, yes I could. Just when I thought we had reached the peak of ridiculousness, Drake and Stephenson teamed up to blow into Paul George’s ear. That is something I will never be able to unsee.

2. Chrissy Teigen’s Outfit

There is ridiculous bad, and then there is ridiculous good. Needless to say, Teigen’s outfit and her offering to the national audience falls into the latter category. Wow. That’s all. A big, fat ridiculous wow.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the star of the night, Stuart Scott. And while nothing was ridiculous in the least about anything he did, me bawling like a three-year-old girl who lost her lovey was flat-out ludicrous. Scott provided one of the most poignant, articulate and memorable moments in ESPY history when he stood up in front of the audience and offered us a glimpse into his beautiful soul. Thank you for the inspiration, Mr. Scott.
