Former Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar star Dudu Omagbeni has agreed to terms with East Bengal of the I-League. Dudu, who first came to india to play for Goa in 2001, is internationally known for his stint with Hungarian side Debreceni Vasutas Sport Club in the UEFA Champions League.
“We have agreed a deal today with Dudu, who will be playing for us in the next season. It’s a one year deal,” said Santosh Bhattacharya, football secretary of East Bengal.
Dudu had a prominent role in helping the Flaming Oranje finish runners-up once in the National Football League and twice in the Federation Cup.
He had five goals in 10 appearances last winter when he was signed by Salgaocar. His play was one of the biggest reasons the team climbed the standings, finishing in third place.
Because Dudu played for Debreceni, he qualifies as a marquee player according to AIFF’s rulebooks. Dudu is East Bengal’s third marquee player added to the team. The others include Leo Bertos of New Zealand, and Ranti Martins of Nigeria. The fourth spot yet to be occupied.
These international signings came weeks after the club decided to part ways with James Moga, Edeh Chidi and Ryuji Sueoka.
Dudu is expected to reach Kolkata by the end of August. The team is releasing its new jerseys later this week.
