Some of the most outrageous tailgating spots in America might be home to college football programs, but the pros know how to do it too. Here are 20 professional sports teams that have set the bar for others and really know how to get rowdy before piling into the stadium to cheer for the home team.
When you think of American sports, your brain doesn't automatically bring up soccer, but the Columbus Crew has one of the most loyal fan bases in the MLS. Crew fans are young, wild and have created one of the most underrated party atmospheres in sports.
The NBA isn't home to a lot of tailgate paradises, but the San Antonio Spurs have mirrored their success on the court with good times in the parking lot. The attendance of their recent parade and rally shows the incredible amount of Spurs fans there are within San Antonio.
The atmosphere before Orioles games might not be as crazy as it is for the city's football team, but night games bring out a tailgating atmosphere that intensifies America's past time. Usually, orange means caution, but not that's not the case when Orioles fans are getting ready to watch their team take the diamond.
Minnesota loves their hockey, so it's no surprise that Wild fans are not only loyal, but like to have a beer or two to keep themselves warm before their team takes the ice. When it comes to NHL franchises that have tailgating done right, Minnesota is one of the cities that deserves to be recognized.
The NFL is bar none the professional sport that does tailgating the best, and the combination of the Denver Broncos' fan base and the high elevation makes the parking lot activities before games a must for any football fan.
While most of the "tailgating" that takes place before Chicago Cubs games is at the many bars surrounding Wrigley Field, they still deserve to be noticed for having one of the most fun and loyal fan bases in baseball. The Cubs may not have won a World Series since 1908, but when that day finally comes, it is going to make for one of the most insane parties in the history of professional sports.
As the Pittsburgh Penguins went from one of the NHL's most embarrassing franchises to one of the best in the league, their fans began to rebuild their tailgating culture as well. Playoff games in Pittsburgh are insane and commonly consist of thousands of fans watching games on a big screen outside of Consol Energy Center. It's not surprising for the atmosphere outside of the arena to be just as crazy as what's going on inside the building.
Teams in the NFC North have to find a way to brave the chilly weather, and for Chicago Bears fans outside of Soldier Field, they usually turn to a cold beer and some hot food in order to keep toasty. Miller Lite has begun sponsoring tailgating activities for Bears fans, which means the party might turn up another notch come next season.
When you have Miami weather, gorgeous cheerleaders and passionate fans, making an atmosphere that is awesome for tailgating isn't too difficult. Dolphins fans haven't had a ton to cheer for as of late, which makes their commitment to partying before games pretty impressive.
Nashville has been named the NHL's No. 1 tailgating destination multiple times, and with the amount of fantastic barbeque and good spirits within their fan base, it isn't difficult to see why.
Baltimore is home to some of the most passionate fans in America, and the tailgating atmosphere they've created at M&T Bank Stadium makes them more than deserving to be on this list. Great food, cold drinks and a fun crowd – it doesn't get much better than that.
While the Nashville Predators might be the NHL's No. 1 tailgating spot in America, we can't forget about the USA's neighbors up north. The Toronto Maple Leafs are the heartbeat of the city, and their fans are as passionate as they come in professional sports. The Toronto tailgate is one of the hidden gems in professional sports.
Pittsburgh has a loyal fan base for all three of their professional franchises, but there's no better example of fanmanship than the insanity that is the Heinz Field tailgate. Crack an Iron City Light and enjoy the rowdiness of one of America's most passionate environments.
Sure, the weather in Philadelphia can be brutal, but that's nothing that a juicy Philly cheesesteak can't fix. The Eagles' fans have created a tailgating menu that is rarely topped in the NFL, and it's even better with a few cold beers to wash all that delicious grub down.
Attending a game at Yankee Stadium has to be on the bucket list for any baseball fan, and the Yankee faithful will show you how a baseball game should be attended. When the calendar hits October, the Yankees are almost always near the top of the standings, which makes their winning background even more appealing to their fun and passionate fan base.
The Oakland Raiders have been a controversial franchise due to their ownership, but you can never question the heart and soul of their fan base. Raiders fans treat games like a religion, which makes for an incredible and nearly untouchable tailgating experience.
While the Kansas City Chiefs may not be known as one of the more raucous fan bases in the NFL, there is one thing they have that most professional sports cities don't – award-winning barbeque. If you're a food fanatic, the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium is a place that you need to be at least once in your life.
It's cold, but trust me, Cleveland fans don't care. They set their alarms early and the parking lot is often littered with ex-college students who are ready to get the party started. Now with partying poster boy Johnny Manziel on the roster, FirstEnergy Stadium will be covered in No. 2 uniforms, and is going to make one of the NFL's most loyal and crazy fan bases even more vivacious.
Anywhere you can find ice luges in the Texas heat seems like a great place to hang out before kickoff. Like Kansas City, Houston tailgates often offer a plethora of fantastic eats and thousands of passionate fans who like to treat Sunday afternoons like it's a Friday night out.
When you think of the best tailgate in professional sports, the cheeseheads have to be one of the images that pops into your mind. With the untouchable tradition of Lambeau Field comes a fan base that loves to have a great time before their team takes the field. Green Bay has the perfect combination of great food, cold drinks, passionate fans, and an incredible environment.
