Sports TV Personalities You Would Love to Punch in the Face

Cris Collinsworth — There are some people who just rub you the wrong way. Often it is hard to explain why, or to put your finger on exactly what makes your skin crawl when you see that person's face, or hear their voice, but it happens nonetheless. Here are the 20 TV sports personalities that would benefit from a punch right to the face.

Dan Dierdorf — Dierdorf comes off like a drunk, stumbling grandfather, whose attempt at formulating a coherent sentence, makes you cringe in embarrassment. Dierdorf managed to stretch out a 26-year-long career calling NFL games, before retiring in 2013. He is now the color guy for Michigan Wolverines broadcasts. How he managed to stay in the booth for that long is beyond me.

Colin Cowherd — Cowherd is the type of guy who always thinks he’s right, and won’t listen to an opposing point of view. He is pompous and arrogant, and his voice is like nails running down a chalkboard. From irrational rants against John Wall to stealing Dan Patrick’s material, there is almost a never-ending list of reasons to not like Cowherd.

Dick Vitale — I’m always on the fence about Vitale. I recognize his significance to the game of college basketball, but there’s only so much fabricated enthusiasm one can stand. He is the ultimate cartoon character of the sports media world, and has outlasted the novelty of his drummed up exuberance and gyrations.

Mel Kiper Jr. — Kiper Jr. is brash, loud and combative. He really only gets paid to do one thing, put together mock NFL drafts for ESPN, and despite the popularity of his boards, his picks are absolutely terrible. I’m not sure how someone can be so bad at doing the thing they get paid to do, and not only do they still get paid to do it, but their name is synonymous with the thing they are so bad at.

Ron Jaworski — Sometimes it is hard to say exactly why you don’t like somebody, you just know that you don’t, and I find Jaworski to be one of the most annoying sports personalities out there. Sure, he is knowledgeable about the quarterback position, when he isn’t proclaiming Colin Kaepernick the best QB in the league, but he talks like he was born with more spit than the average human being, and he is overly bombastic.

Warren Sapp — Sapp is one of the loudest, big-mouthed, brazen figures out there. There is a reason it seems like a new player comes out every week, proclaiming how much they dislike(d) Sapp. When he’s not picking fights with Michael Strahan or Brandon Marshall, or calling Jeremy Shockey a snitch, he is on set running his mouth about someone else. He seems to think he is a reporter rather than an analyst, and he frankly is not any good at either.

Chris Berman — Berman, much like Vitale, falls into the category of people I respect, but have a hard time stomaching. His novelty wore off several decades ago, and now every time I am forced to sit through an event involving his antics and catchphrases, I just feel sorry for how forced it comes across. He managed to stretch out a 30-year career with virtually the same schtick. I think it’s time for him to hang it up.

Lou Holtz — Sure, Holtz is a legend, but that doesn’t mean we have to like the guy, does it? I still don’t know how a person that can barely formulate coherent sentences can now be paid to talk for a living. He may be offering the most brilliant analysis of all time, but I wouldn’t know because I can’t get past that cringe-worthy lisp. That is literally all I can hear.

Joe Buck — Joe Buck definitely benefited from his lot in life, and has ridden the coattails of his legendary father all the way to his place as one of the foremost commentators in the sports world. Unlike his father, however, Joe is one of the dullest people on the planet to have to listen to drone on for hours on end. When he isn’t being utterly boring, he is being completely judgmental. Either way, he is annoying.

Bill Walton — I’ll give Walton this, he is incredibly entertaining at times. You almost feel like tuning in just to see what stupid thing he will say next that has absolutely nothing to do with the game he is calling. That said, he often comes across as a judgmental jerk, who looks down on every player in the NBA. He is overly negative and hyperbolic, and a punch to the face might actually benefit him.

Phil Simms — Unlike some, I don’t find Simms overly partial to one team or another, I simply find him extremely boring, which is ironic considering he is supposed to be the color guy. He comes off like a complete corporate lackey who weaseled his way into the position he is in. I will never understand why CBS continually makes him their top commentator.

Cris Collinsworth — I can’t quite pinpoint why I don’t like Collinsworth to the extreme that I do, but that doesn’t make it any less real. Maybe it’s the smug way he comes across or that little snide grin that is plastered on his face as he blabbers on. He obviously loves to hear himself talk, and he is either completely inserted inside a player’s digestive tract, or he is lambasting them for no reason at all. There is no in-between with him.

Stephen A. Smith — Stephen A. Smith is combative to elicit reactions, which I understand, but he has taken his schtick way too far on several occasions. I had honestly given him somewhat of a pass until his most recent comments on the Ray Rice situation, after which I lost any lingering respect I had for him. ESPN should have fired him instead of suspending him.

Terry Bradshaw — It’s hard to tell whether Bradshaw is intentionally stupid, or if it is simply an act that he has perpetuated for two decades. Either way, I can’t get past how utterly and overwhelmingly dumb this guy is. Not much else needs to be said.

Skip Bayless — The ultimate troll. Bayless is the epitome of having controversial beliefs simply for the sake of being controversial. It’s one thing to have thoughts that are contrary to public sentiment, but when every single thing he has ever stated goes against popular opinion, it is obvious that he is stoking the fire for ratings. I literally cannot keep watching the television when I see his face.

Harold Reynolds — There’s no denying that Reynolds, a former MLB player, has tremendous knowledge of the game. The problem is that I don’t think he knows when to stop talking. His energetic style just doesn’t work alongside Joe Buck. Baseball is a beautiful game, but Reynolds just makes it so much less enjoyable.

Jay Mariotti — Thankfully, and I can’t emphasize how incredibly thankful we should all be, Mariotti no longer has a half hour on TV to spew his insanity. Mariotti is currently the Sports Director at The San Francisco Examiner, where I’m guessing he’s disliked by all of his coworkers.

Keyshawn Johnson — Johnson is pretty good on NFL pregame shows at times, but he does have a tendency to go a little over the top. The former wide receiver always seem like he’s just trying a little too hard and can frankly be pretty annoying.

Chris Broussard — Broussard has lost a ton of credibility over the years for making several false reports and claiming he was breaking news when really he was just stealing other reporters’ work. Most recently, Broussard was owned by Mavericks owner Mark Cuban for his incorrect and seemingly made up reports about the DeAndre Jordan free agency debacle.

Dan Le Batard — Personally, I have no idea how Le Batard’s show is still on the air. ESPN has loved him for years, despite the fact that he truly is “Highly Questionable.” Le Batard let his fans vote with his ballot for the Baseball Hall of Fame and rightfully had his voting privileges revoked.
