ISL: Opening Ceremony, Atletico de Kolkata vs Mumbai FC

The Indian Super League (ISL) kicked-off with an eye-catching opening ceremony in Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. The electric event was followed by the marquee event: Atletico de Kolkata vs Mumbai FC. Here's what you need to know from the opening night.

Why will the ISL succeed? Because seemingly EVERYONE is invested into it, one way or another. Director CESC Sanjiv Goenka, Kolkata Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Founder & Chairperson of Football Sports Development Nita Ambani and All India Football Federation President Praful Patel were all in attendance as they each played an important role in the opening night's events. Salt Lake Stadium was packed!

Remember when we said seemingly EVERYONE was invested into the ISL. Yes, on top of politicians, business leaders and Bollywood icons, even former cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was in attendance. As the owner of the Kerala franchise of the ISL, Tendulkar will become a familiar face on ISL sidelines.

Fikru-Teferra Lemessa (27') made history as he became the first ever goal scorer in the Indian Super League. Atletico de Kolkata defeated Mumbai FC 3-0, with the other two coming from Borja Fernandez (70') and Arnal Llibert (90'+3'). Safe to say the 70,000-plus at Salt Lake Stadium enjoyed themselves.
