Atletico de Kolkata is not only the team of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, but is also associated with Spanish giant Atletico de Madrid to bring some of the best combination of domestic and international talent in the ISL. Playing in the 100,000-plus seater that is Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, the club expects to be one of the premier sides in the ISL. There's clearly a heavy Spanish influence on the club.

Former Real Madrid defensive midfielder Borja Fernandez, who was actually the first ever ISL registered player, will be one of the cornerstones of the team. Having a solid background playing for some of Spanish football's best, Borja’s experience will be a crucial component at the base of the team’s midfield. The team is well-balanced, without a doubt, but how far the team goes in the first season will be dictated by Borja's efficient play.
