Sports have come a long way in India. Long gone are days of limited resources, no opportunities and hopeless dreams. With the way new leagues and organizations are forming in India, the future of sports is brighter than ever before.

Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj notes the developments in sports.

“It’s raining leagues at this point,” Amritraj said at the launch of Champions Tennis League’s Delhi franchisee Delhi Dreams. “It shows that sports have come a long way from the time I played professionally. I remember people asking me ‘you play tennis, but what you do for a living?’ I think that question has left everyone’s mind because we believe that one can earn a good living from sport.”

The Delhi Dreams team is co-owned by actor Ajay Devgan and businessman Sanjeev Kansal. Based out of New Delhi, the team includes former men’s world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain, South Africa’s Kevin Anderson, former women’s top-ranked player Jelena Jankovic, India’s Sanam Singh and two junior players -Karman Kaur Thandi and Garvit Batra.

Martina Hingis and former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis will be the two wild card entries.

The tournament will essentially be a 10-day frenzy. Matches will be played in one-set format with nine point tie-breakers. There are six teams divided into two group, with a total of 13 matches to be played.

The Champions Tennis League is based around the Indian Premier League, credit being given to Amritraj. It is set to launch in November 2014, with matches in six Indian cities: Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore and Chandigarh.
