There comes a time in almost every athlete’s life where they have to choose between sports. For professional athletes, it is pretty clear they made the right choice, but boy is it fun to wonder what could have been. Many skills translate from one sport to another and some athletes have storied high school careers in other sports making the imagined career switches easier to present. Here are 20 athletes who would dominate another sport.

20. Adrian Peterson - Hockey

One of the most dominant NFL running backs in history, Peterson is a unique blend of size, speed and vision. Put skates on “AD” from a young age and he would be the type of player the NHL has never seen. Not only would Peterson be one of the fastest skaters and hardest hitters in the league, but his vision would help him find open teammates to pass to out on the ice.

Is there a sport LeBron would not dominate if he wanted to? The guy is 6-foot-8, 250 pounds and moves like he is one foot shorter and 100 pounds lighter. How is an NFL defense supposed to defend against that combination of length, strength and speed? An absolute matchup nightmare, especially in the red zone, “King James” would give opposing defenses nightmares.

18. Anthony Davis - Volleyball

The New Orleans Pelicans forward already spikes away opponents’ shots in basketball, so what is to stop him from doing the same in volleyball? Davis is 6-foot-10 with a condor-like wingspan, which along with his leaping ability would enable him to spike and block balls way above the net.

17. Usain Bolt - Football

You knew the fastest man in the world had to be on the list, right? No sport would be able to utilize his straight ahead speed quite like football. Not only is Bolt fast, but he’s tall at 6-foot-5. The coaching and instructions would be simple and easy – go deep.

16. Blake Griffin - Football

Griffin is already like a football tight end when he goes up for the countless alley-oops he throws down. One of the most explosive athletes in the NBA, Blake has not only the aerial ability but also the size to play tight end in the NFL. He has jumped over a car before in the dunk contest, so what is to stop him from jumping over would-be tacklers?

15. Colin Kaepernick - Baseball

Kaepernick may have the strongest arm in the NFL, and he proves it on a weekly basis by constantly overthrowing his wide receivers. The 49ers quarterback was a high-school pitcher who was said to have a fastball that that could reach the low to mid-90s. Drafted in the 43rd round by the Cubs in 2009, “Kap” turned down a contract offer to continue pursuing a football career.

14. Giancarlo Stanton - Football

The Marlins outfielder led the National League in home runs in 2014 and has some history of success as a football player. Stanton was a star wide receiver for football powerhouse Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif. Three of that team’s wide receivers received D-1 scholarships, and Stanton would have joined them had he not chosen baseball instead. At 6-foot-6 with good speed, Stanton could have lit up NFL scoreboards.

13. Joe Mauer - Football

The Minnesota Twins catcher turned first baseman has the look of a prototypical NFL quarterback. Mauer stands 6-foot-5 and was a Gold Glove Award winning catcher, so he clearly has a strong and accurate arm. Want more proof? Mauer was the 2001 Gatorade National Player of the Year as a quarterback and turned down a scholarship offer from Florida State University after being selected No. 1 overall in the MLB Draft.

12. Kobe Bryant - Soccer

One of the main reasons the U.S. is not a great soccer nation is because America’s best athletes choose to play other sports. No country has the amount of athletes with the size and speed of America’s best, like Kobe. At 6-foot-7 and with great quickness and instincts, Kobe would make one incredible goalkeeper. Bryant also grew up in Italy, so he was exposed to the soccer world and atmosphere from a young age which makes him an even better fit.

11. Michael Vick - Basketball

The New York Jets’ new starting quarterback, Vick revolutionized the quarterback position with his ability to extend plays with his legs. Point guard is the quarterback position of basketball, and with his speed and athleticism, Vick would be a great leader of a team in the NBA. He would be a crafty-lefty who's difficult to defend in the mold of the Grizzlies’ Mike Conley.

10. Mike Trout - Football

The Angels outfielder is the biggest young star in baseball and might already be MLB’s best player at the age of 23. Trout is 6-foot-1, 230 pounds with legs that look as strong as tree trunks. The 2012 AL Rookie of the Year has unimaginable speed and range in the outfield and would carry that over to an NFL team’s secondary. There’s no doubt Trout would be one of the NFL’s premier hard-hitting safeties and an intimidator in the back of a defense.

9. Russell Westbrook - Football

The Thunder point guard is as explosive as they come in the NBA. With Westbrook’s 6-foot-3 height, good hands and incredible leaping ability, he would be an unstoppable wide receiver or defensive back.

8. Tom Brady - Baseball

Brady and his powerful arm helped him be selected in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the Montreal Expos as a catcher. The Patriots quarterback is not known for being fleet of foot, so the catcher position is perfect for Brady. Like a point guard in basketball, the catcher in baseball is the most cerebral position and the quarterback of the defense.

7. Tony Romo - Golf

I do not know what it is, but Romo just has that look of a golfer. The Cowboys quarterback was good enough to win amateur tournaments and nearly qualified for the U.S. Open. About two years ago, in an effort to keep his back as healthy as possible, Romo gave up golf. He probably chokes away leads on the back-nine anyway.

6. Zdeno Chara - Basketball

The Bruins captain is the biggest beast in the NHL. Chara stands at 6-foot-9 and is the unquestioned leader of the Boston defense. Hockey players are known for their good hands, good feet and mean streaks, so I imagine Chara as an enforcer-type of power forward in the NBA. Good luck to anyone who enters the paint against this natural enforcer.

5. C.C. Sabathia - Football

The New York Yankees starting pitcher may be the biggest man in baseball. At a listed 6-foot-7 and 285 pounds, run into Sabathia on the street and you’d definitely think he plays football professionally instead of baseball. He would be a mammoth of a blocking tight end who at times could sneak out into the flat and rumble his way into the end zone.

4. Antonio Brown - Basketball

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver is one of the last players NFL defenses want to see with the ball in his hands. At a lightning quick 5-foot-10, Brown would be a scoring point guard in the NBA known for his slashing and finishing at the rim.

3. Chris Paul - Soccer

The Clippers point guard is the best guard in the NBA today. “CP3” is an elite-level distributor and has great scoring touch when needed. Paul is a slippery player to try and defend and is seemingly always a step or two ahead of the defense. As a soccer forward or midfielder, Paul would be an offensive dynamo.

2. Sidney Crosby - Baseball

Crosby is the best hockey player in the world and possesses an incredible scoring touch. Hockey players already swing a stick at smaller object, so hockey’s best is the perfect candidate to make the switch from the ice to the diamond. “Sid the Kid” would be a high-average hitting corner outfielder. He hit a home run at the Pittsburgh Pirates' PNC Park while taking batting practice in 2010, so he seems to be a bit of a natural.

The Warriors point guard is on his way to becoming the greatest shooter in NBA history, so fans know he’s a marksman with his shots. As an All-Star point guard, Curry has great footwork and agility, which translates perfectly to the tennis court.
