Star Athletes Who Always Play on Losing Teams

Although many stars change teams throughout their careers, many can stay on one team and still play on multiple losing squads. In fact, most of the guys on this list have been on one or two teams in their careers, but each year, their teams falter.

Let's take a look at 15 star athletes who can never seem to catch a break when it comes to making a run at a championship.

Brandon Marshall seems to have terrible luck when switching teams. When he was on the Broncos from 2006-09, he didn't make the playoff and now they're unstoppable. Since he's joined the Bears, he hasn't sniffed the postseason. Nearly 10,000 career receiving yards and no playoff appearances to show for it.

Like many players on the current Lions' roster, Ndamukong Suh hasn't been playoff-friendly. Sure, Detroit made a run to the postseason in 2011, but one playoff games in his five-year career is not considered successful. The 2014 season may change that, though, as the Lions are currently on pace to make it past December -- maybe.

Jose Bautista has played for five different teams and none of them have made the postseason. His career didn't really take off until 2010 with the Blue Jays, however, when he hit 54 homers. His 246 career home runs have accounted for no playoff wins.

12. Chris Johnson

Earning the nickname CJ2K was quite impressive seeing as Johnson recorded 2,000 yards rushing in his second season in the NFL. However, the Titans never made the playoffs with him as the starter and now that he's on the Jets, he may as well kiss any chance of a championship goodbye.

11. Tony Romo

Tony Romo has played in just four playoff games in his 12-year career, but he is known as a choker and it doesn't help when he can never get past the first round. Romo's Cowboys seem to be no better than .500 every year.

10. Kyrie Irving

Sure, Kyrie has only been in the league a few years, but he still has been a member of the formerly-lowly Cavs. Now that he has LeBron, that will all change. Heck, Kyrie hasn't won much since high school because he got injured early in his freshman year at Duke and then declared for the NBA before his sophomore season. He is desperate for some type of championship.

9. Steven Jackson

Steven Jackson has over 11,000 rushing yards and 66 rushing touchdowns in his illustrious 11-year career, but the 31-year-old RB has just two playoff games under his belt. Unluckily for him, the Falcons have been mediocre since he joined them in 2013 despite high expectations.

8. Dez Bryant

Dez Bryant is in his fifth season in the NFL and he has a very bright future ahead of him, but he has to be frustrated that the Cowboys have failed to make the playoffs since he's been around. In fact, the team's last playoff appearance was a season before he was drafted. Tough luck for one of the NFL's best wide outs.

Kevin Love has been known as one of the best big men in the NBA, averaging 20 points and over 10 rebounds seemingly every year since he's turned pro. However, he has been on a lowly Minnesota Timberwolves team up until the 2014-15 season and, barring a meltdown, the Cavaliers will change his playoff luck.

6. Calvin Johnson

Calvin Johnson, like Ndamukong Suh, has played in one career playoff game in his eight-year career. However, he was quite productive in that one game, catching 12 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. He's nicknamed Megatron for a reason.

5. David Wright

David Wright is regarded as one of the best third basemen in the entire sport of baseball -- both offensively and defensively. The two-time Gold Glover has made one postseason appearance ever and that was in 2006 with the Mets. He might need a change of scenery if he ever wants to make the playoffs again.

4. Adrian Peterson

Okay, so the Vikings have made the playoffs three times since AP has joined the league, but they haven't exactly been a 'winning' franchise. Peterson, the NFL's best running back, has never made the NFL title game and the Vikings have seemed like a mediocre team more often than not with him as the running back. That's 10,190 yards and 86 touchdowns wasted.

3. Felix Hernandez

Easily considered one of the top-five pitchers in baseball, Felix Hernandez has unluckily been with the Seattle Mariners since making it to the majors in 2005. He has a career 3.07 ERA and 125 wins to go along with a boatload of strikeouts, but the Mariners haven't made the playoffs since 2001. Too bad they were just a couple of wins away from making it this year and ending Hernandez's drought.

2. Giancarlo Stanton

Stanton just inked the most lucrative deal in sports history, inking a 13-year, 5 million in November of 2014. However, the fifth-year player has made the playoffs zero times with the Marlins and unless the Marlins make some big free agency moves, his 30-plus annual home runs and 100 RBI will go to waste.

If I told you that a guy who has averaged less than 19 points per game just three times in his eight-year career had never made it past the first round of the NBA playoffs, would you believe me? Well, you better believe it. Rudy Gay has been a scoring machine since entering the league, but the only playoff run he has ever been a part of has been the 2011-12 Memphis Grizzlies when they lost in seven games in the first round.
