The Supreme Court in India observed earlier this week that Chennai Super Kings should be "terminated without further enquiry" from the Indian Premier League (IPL). One of its officials - Gurunath Meiyappan - is currently being charged for betting.

Meiyappan is the son-in-law of suspended BCCI president N. Srinivasan. According to official rules, if a team official is discovered engaging in corrupt activities such as betting and match-fixing, the franchise can be terminated.

Former judge Mukul Mudgal said in a report that Meiyappan was a team owner and took part in both betting and sharing team information.

An even bigger issue is that other officials have supposedly helped cover up this scandal.

"We don't expect people to stand up and confess. There could be corollaries and consequences arising from the inferences contained in the report. That you cannot escape."
