Generally, athletes are pretty cool people. However, when they try to be too cool, it can get pretty annoying. These 15 athletes try just a bit too hard to appear cooler than their fellow players.

Big Papi is a cool dude, but sometimes he just goes a bit too far. He's beloved in Boston for good reason, but he goes over the top with his antics every now and then. Nonetheless, he's one of the most beloved players in the game today.

14. Russell Westbrook

Westbrook, like so many other NBA players, tries to be cool by making fashion statements. When he and Kevin Durant are dressing in strange garb for post-game press conferences, it gets really interesting.

13. Alexander Ovechkin

Ovechkin, like some other star NHL players, is a prima donna. A lot of people find him soft since he's injured so much, yet he flaunts his fancy visors and smooth puck movement every game. There's no doubt he's one of the best players in the league, but his antics get annoying.

Noted as being one of the most fashionable NBA players, D-Wade goes way over the top too often. Several times, he's worn capris as a fashion statement, which is a bit bizarre. As he gets older, hopefully his fashion sense gets a bit more practical.

11. Jose Reyes

Whether it be showboating in the field or popping the bling after a nice play, Reyes is very demonstrative on the baseball field. While he's certainly fun to watch, if Reyes could dial it back a bit, his opponents and many fans would probably appreciate it.

10. Cam Newton

Newton has had an underwhelming season as his Panthers have struggled. Nonetheless, he still showboats and does his vintage jersey tear-off gesture when he finds his way to the end zone. Probably the worst thing about him is when he wears a towel on his head tucked into his jersey on the sideline.

9. Chris Johnson

When he was with the Titans, Johnson was incredibly flashy. Even though he's toned it back in New York, he still gets back to his flashy ways every now and then. As he ages, perhaps he will focus more on football and less on seeming and looking cool.

8. Sidney Crosby

Like Ovechkin, Crosby is injury-prone and soft. He complains about every call he doesn't get, but always tries to flash his golden boy smile while doing it. To most NHL fans, the entire act is getting pretty old.

7. Dwight Howard

There is no player in the NBA that is more immature than Howard. He may be the most hated player in the league simply because of how much he runs his mouth. He can be that annoying, but then try to act cooler than the other side of the pillow. Everyone would be better without him in the league.

6. Brandon Phillips

Phillips is one of the smoothest fielders in MLB, but he hot dogs all the time. He doesn't always hustle and apparently thinks that looks cool. He needs to realize that not hustling doesn't make him cool -- that just makes him an underachiever.

5. James Harden

If Harden's beard doesn't tell you enough about him, then I'm not sure what will. He tries to make his beard into a thing of its own and it's just annoying. He also apparently thinks that chucking up 20 shots a game is cool, because he does that with regularity.

Swaggy P obviously tries to be cool given his nickname. He likes being in the spotlight and even though he's really entertaining, he can be a bit much at times. Nonetheless, Kobe Bryant appreciates having him back at his side for the Lakers.

3. LeSean McCoy

Shady McCoy is an incredible talent, but he's always out being flashy. There's not a whole lot wrong with that, but the biggest thing wrong with that is that he holds the ball like he's carrying a loaf of bread. That ball is going to get punched out more times than not.

Ever since bursting onto the scene, Kaepernick has been flashy as can be. He does a kiss-the-bicep dance whenever he scores and routinely talks trash. Now that he's starting to not back up his talk, he's a bit more annoying.

Johnny Football has been trying to seem like the coolest athlete on the planet since his first season at Texas A&M. While it does seem like he's maturing in Cleveland, he still always seems to find himself at the wrong place at the wrong time trying to look like a cool guy.
